Author's note: Written for hump_day101, with the prompt of I will follow you into the dark. This is fluff week--yay! And, since the current prompt at hd_fluff is song lyrics, I'm killing two prompts with one drabble. *smug* Lyrics used are by Death Cab for Cutie.
Summary: Draco has a scary mission, but Harry promises to go along and keep him safe.
"Why do I have to do this?" Draco whined.
"Because you chose dare," Harry reminded him.
"How was I supposed to know your cruel friends would dare me to take a walk in the Forbidden Forest? At night?!" Draco's voice had risen and now had an edge of hysteria to it.
"Don't worry," Harry soothed, pulling his boyfriend into a hug. "I'll follow you into the dark."
"Really?" asked Draco, perking up a bit.
"Sure," Harry replied. "There's nothing in the rules that says someone can't go with you."
"Will...will you hold my hand?" Draco pleaded.
"Of course I will," Harry assured him. "I'll be right there with you, so close to you that you won't even notice anything around you...just our hands clasped so tight that nothing would dare to harm you."
Draco's resolve strengthened with every word, and he was standing proud and tall by the time Harry finished speaking. "You're right, Harry," he nodded. "Nothing and no one will mess with me while you're there to protect me." Saying that, Draco held out his hand, smiling when Harry took it in a firm grip. Taking a deep breath, he said, "Let's do this."
Harry raised Draco's hand and brushed a kiss across the blond's knuckles, giving him a bold wink as he did so. Draco grinned back at him bravely, and together they walked into the Forbidden Forest, hand in hand.
