Jae's Monthly Drabble Challenge #104

Oct 05, 2014 16:22

It's October, the house is decorated for the season, the leaves are changing, and there's a definite chill in the air. Halloween isn't far away!

This month's prompt is a list of Halloween-type words: gasp, howl, night, potion, werewolf. Use one, some or all, and feel free to use them in any tense or to make something plural. Also, your entry needn't be Halloween-related at all. You may write/draw any fandom, pairing, threesome, gen fic, etc. Combine it with other prompts, if you like.

Please post your entry in your own journal (unlocked!) or a community of your choice, and leave me a link in the comments below. You have until October 31 at 10:00pm CST to submit an entry. At that time, I'll post links to the entries and draw a name from among the participants to receive a drabble from me.

Below is my entry for this month:

Summary: Draco has an important meeting with a potential customer, and he doesn't want Harry to interfere.

"I don't want to go to the pub with my mates," Harry stated. His chin jutted out belligerently.

"Do stop being so stubborn," sighed Draco. "You haven't spent an evening with your friends in weeks."

"I want to stay here and make sure Flyfrog doesn't try anything funny," said Harry.

Draco rolled his eyes. "The bloke's name is Franklin Fryfogle, and he knows I'm married."

"That doesn't mean he'll keep his hands to himself," countered Harry. "The man is a slut."

"Harry James Potter-Malfoy!"

"He is!"

Draco counted to ten as he tried to collect himself. "Harry, you know that Fryfogle can be an important customer for me," he said. "I need to make a good impression on him, which isn't going to happen if you are seated across the table from him, glaring at him all evening long."

"I promise I won't-"

"Harry, you are leaving the house tonight, and that's final."

"Malfoy Apothecary is in a unique position to supply all of your potions ingredients," said Draco. He wasn't certain Fryfogle was listening. The man had been leering at Draco ever since he'd arrived.

"I do enjoy unique positions," Fryfogle said with a smarmy grin.

Draco was beginning to wonder if the man's business was worth the hassle of dealing with his inappropriate behavior. He tried to keep the conversation on track. "Mr Fryfogle-"

Woo-aaar-ooo-oooo!

An eerie howl shattered the silence outside of the house, and Fryfogle jumped in his chair. Even the fine hairs on Draco's nape rose at the sound.

"What was that?!" gasped Fryfogle, reaching for his wand.

Draco mustered a laugh, hoping to put Fryfogle at ease. "Our neighbors keep hounds," he lied. "Occasionally something sets them off."

"It sounded like a wolf!"

"There are no wolves in Britain, sir."

"No, but there are werewolves here," muttered Fryfogle.

"I assure you, nothing can get past the wards," said Draco. "Now, about our ability to send shipments to your lab-"

Aaar-ooo-oooo!

Fryfogle bolted to his feet. "I'm not staying here a moment longer," he blurted before rushing for the Floo.

"I'll owl you tomorrow!" Draco called after him. He growled in frustration when his potential customer disappeared in a flash of green. Draco stalked to the French doors and flung them open. He strode outside and stood there, tapping one foot impatiently.

A large black wolf trotted forward, tucking its tail the closer it came.

"Harry James Potter-Malfoy," hissed Draco. "You are in so much trouble."

Harry whined and slunk the final distance to his husband. He dropped to his belly and laid his head on Draco's foot.

Draco fisted a hand in Harry's thick ruff and gave him a firm shake. "Bad werewolf!" he scolded.

Harry whined again and licked Draco's hand when he released him.

"Get inside," Draco ordered, pointing at the opened doors for emphasis.

Harry trudged inside, head down and tail drooping.

"I've a mind to put a collar on you and tie you in the cellar for the rest of the night," Draco snapped.

Harry shimmered and resumed his human form. He frowned at his husband. "I was watching from the garden," he said sullenly. "Flyfrog was trying to pull you!"

"I can take care of myself, Harry," said Draco, pushing past him and heading upstairs.

Harry trailed after him. "Do you still want to indulge in some bondage?" he asked hopefully.

Draco aimed a glare at Harry over one shoulder. "You will be sleeping in the spare bedroom tonight!"
