Sister, long term side effects aren't really an issue here, also? He's an inmate, none of us know him, and I know for a fact that several things on that list are poisonous.
Saying that the entire history of real medicine is an inferior equivalent to something which he claims to be able to do? When we have safe and tested alternatives provided by wardens? Sister, your reasoning is unfathomable to me.
If the Master had first arrived claiming to be able to make miraculous alien healing potions, would we have accepted them as a part of our infirmary stock? Sister this is... when there is an entire ship full of people depending on your professionalism for their health and welfare, I can't believe you'd be so willing to risk them all by accepting his offer at face value.
It's not an assault on your character, Comrade, it's reason. None of us know you, you're an inmate, but they're happy to use whatever you make to re-stock the infirmary?
I don't know your personality, I don't know your motives, I don't know anything about you except that you are capable of something bad enough to be an inmate here.
What I do know is that the infirmary is stocked with reliable and effective treatments for everything you are offering. If we accept your offer then there are two possible results of it:
1) You poison us
2) You don't poison us
If we don't accept your offer then there is only one possible result:
1) You don't poison us
So while there is no reason to take the additional risk of accepting your offer, it is only logical not to accept it. I have no idea why our Wardens can not see this.
If I had any intention of poisoning you, I certainly wouldn't waste my ingredients to do so. There are a plethora of toxic substances aboard this ship.
If you don't accept my offer, there are still the two possibilities.
If you want to expand the reasoning outside of the medical area then we can do that.
However, right now there is one, un-poisoned source of drugs in the infirmary. If we accept your offer then there will be two sources of drugs, one un-poisoned, and one potentially poisoned.
You might be able to poison the food or something, but from a purely mathematical point of view, introducing an untested source of medicine into a so far uncontaminated store is illogical.
You're talking about being afraid and being magnanimous and being concerned, I'm being rational. The potential benefits of your offer do not outweigh the potential risks, so accepting it is... counter intuitive.
as he should be!thatlibbychickOctober 3 2009, 21:15:18 UTC
Have you seen people replying to him, saying they know who he is? Many of us have read stories of his world, stories that involve him. In my world, and those of some others, he's a character in a popular series of novels. He is able to do these things, and the proof is in the books that contain him.
I know some of the listed items are poisonous. Belladonna is one. However, in small quantities, that poison is an invaluable ingredient in immune-system stimulants, prescription eye drops, and antidotes to certain types of overdoses. Topically, it can be used to lessen the pain of gout and arthritis. Wormwood is used to ease stomach problems. That being said, there are a few items I'll be asking him to cross off the list.
I'm not saying I trust him blindly, but if there's even a tiny chance that these concoctions could help people, I can't just dismiss it. I'm perfectly willing to test each of these remedies on myself first, before issuing them to any patients. I wouldn't prescribe untested remedies to anyone without testing, I assure
The Marquis wrote a story in which Claire, Peter, and I had an illicit threesome. It was entirely fictional, and proof of absolutely nothing.
We don't need the drugs, and you shouldn't accept them and test them on yourself just because you read a favorable review of his performance in a fictional medium in a different universe.
Sister, just ignore him and use the drugs which have been officially and rigorously tested and certified as being safe for general use!

I warn you, I will not tolerate this continued assault on my character.

Brother, you are not inspiring great trust in me.

Think! Why would I poison anyone? I would be the first suspect.

Your reasoning is still flawed.

My reasoning is sound.

However, if it is merely testing that concerns you, then I encourage you to test them to your heart's content.
I'll even be so magnanimous as to provide you with a small sample from each batch.
