[There is a lady wandering through the farmer's market early in the morning, looking a bit dazed, but complacent. There is also a teenage boy somewhere in the market trying to find her, but it's not like she'll get into any trouble without him, he's just a bit protective.

Jackie stops to run her fingers over some flowers for sale, leaning in to smell them. She gives them a longing look but doesn't buy any and keeps walking.]

[ While Rai is not trying to upset Jackie, her distress does not bother, she is not empathic with it. If anything, it confuses her a little, but she hardly pays attention to it.

When she calls out for him, the girl lifts her head excitedly - almost like an owl looking for the little squirrel - and she turns around when she feels the boy step around her. She watches him, tilts her head, taking notice of how he handles his mother carefully. It's a bit strange, because it's usually the other way around with Raicho, but she's happy to see that. ]

Hi Darren. [ A smile, and she looks at his hand. Adam told her once that's how humans say hello sometimes. So she takes his hand, gives it a firm, single shake. ] I'm Raicho. It's nice to meet you and your mom.

[It doesn't take much to upset his mother, that in and of itself upsets her, and Darren spends a lot of time reminding how far she's come in the last seventeen years or so. Convincing her is always a temporary thing.]

Thanks, you too, Raicho.

[The single shake is a little weird, but Darren just chalks it up to an eager kind of personality.]

So, what brings you down to the market?

[She tucks herself quietly into her son's side, straightening out her hair nervously, while she takes a moment to recompose her thoughts. She's still frowning, never as patient with herself as she could be. Most days she still just wants to stop trying.]

Mmm. [ She seems a little conflicted. Eating mothers doesn't bother her, but she prefers the younger, prettier folk. Darren is young and pretty, though. ] I was hungry.

[ She still is and the market is full of people. Lots to choose from. Stumbling upon Jackie and her son, it was a mere coincidence. She looks towards both of them and tilts her head, alike she's analysing them. And in a way, she is. ]

[His smile goes a little crooked for her.]

It's a good place to be hungry. I've been eyeing those Amish ladies with the peach cobblers the whole time we've been here.

We could do that...

[She says it softly, would spoil him rotten if he'd let her, but he's pretty wise to the attempts to assure his love through money, and he doesn't humor her.]

[ Eating normal food it's not something Raicho does - doesn't need it, never cared about it - but she seems curious. Peach cobblers... She doesn't know what those are but she knows what a peach is. Adam talks about those, sometimes.

Amish, however, is something she has no idea what it is. She wonders if Amish ladies taste good...

Jackie is talking to Darren, of course, but Raicho looks at her with a smile. She looks around. ]

Can we go see the Amish ladies?

[He thinks that's kind of a cute response and laughs lazily.]

Sure, I'll split one with you.

[He means a peach cobbler, Girlcho, Don't get any funny ideas.]

[Jackie rubs one of her eyes, taking a deep breath, clearly the last of the fog that had been trying to trip her up. The girl is still very strange, people don't just come up to strangers like this, but it's not like they're taking her home with them.

She steps out of Darren's arm quietly, leading the way over the pair of modestly dressed women and their cart of homemade pastries.

She get a small cherry danish for herself when Darren prods her to, and she even eats it as she watches her son split the little pie with Raicho.]

[ Girlcho, that's adorable.

Raicho seems quite surprised and delighted at Darren, but that is pushed aside when they meet the old ladies with their homemade pastries. She doesn't look at those, though, she's looking at the Amish women with a tilt of her head. They don't look very tasty, no, and not pretty enough for the little monster.

She's only brought out of her musings when Darren is sharing his cobbler with her. She takes it, in awe, and stares at the half of the little pastry. She likes how it smells and she brings it to her mouth to take a lick at the filling.

It... tastes weird. Not bad-weird. Just weird. ]
