ok what's with all these anonymous people commenting on my last post. are you too ashamed that you don't want to let anyone know who you are? what happened to "I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ"? if this is what you believe and are telling me then why are you hiding who you are. to me that seems like you are an even smaller person than ( Read more... )

I am only being anonymous because i dont have a password- this is ERIN BETH JEFFRIES speaking to you eric. I have just started to read your lj and would like to throw my two cents in this debate of "what would Jesus do and how does that influence what we do"....ok eric...first of all...tell me what it is about Live Journal that is so appealing to you? It seems kind of passive agressive to me. Now, I feel as though the anonymous person that called you on your swearing made some valid points. Vulger language is a slap in Gods face and not from him...and if it is not from him it is from satan- i feel as though you are playing with fire with your lame arguement that God never explicitely says "dont say the F-word". Everyone right now in this place and time knows that the F-word is a horendous swear word and when you use it your intent is to swear. God does not say anything about the f-word, but he does say "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, ( ... )

i think that you can't apply universality in how you interpret the bible, parables aren't supposed to be taken literally, but jesus' actions are. so you can't really say that there are two ways to look at the bible, and leave it at that without any qualification. there are two different ways that certain passages are intended to be taken.

My name is Alex, I saw Eric's last post on the Friends page of a friend of mine who isn't a Christian and doesn't want to be involved in this. First, I don't think I contradicted myself at all in my explanation of how words with impure meanings came to be widely used in society- when you said I seemed to justify using "crap," you were probably referring to when I said something like "and now we're fine with it," in reference to the way we have become desensitized to its meaning. I didn't say it "IS fine" to use the word, it was an illustration of how, in 20 years, F*** will probably have lost the connotation of its literal meaning the way "crap" has. I was pointing out, like you say, that we as a society do have a double standard, not illustrating a double standard myself. Sorry if the meaning of "now we're fine with it" was unclear, i meant we = society, and didn't connote any approval of that. But even though we = society have developed a double standard and "our own interpretations" of things, we = Christians are not supposed to be ( ... )

And finally: "yours are jsut similar to the rest of the popular christian belief cuz thats probably what you have been taught. ive been taught to view things with an open heart and open mind im not told what to believe anymore." a blanket statement like "the rest of the popular Christian belief" doesn't make much sense here; to read the majority of replies on this post, the "popular Christian belief," at least of Christians on livejournal, is that 'if the Bible doesn't explicitly condemn it, you can interpret that in whatever way you want,' kind of thing. so with that as the "popular," (at least here) "Christian belief," i'm definitely in the minority. I believe in the absolute truth, if not always absolute literalism (like Eric mentioned about the parables) of the Bible, and that it is the final authority on God's rules and desires, and that, when read as a whole and not in carefully chosen bits and pieces, one will not even be able to interpret it in one's "own way-" I give God enough credit to have written a book that is complete ( ... )

First off, I just want to say that alot of stuff you just commented upon made alot of sense to me and I'm definantly going to think about it.

But....

To say that Eric was falling("we do fall")is rediculous. He was mad, he has feelings, and he has emotions.
Alot of things you say make a whole lot of sense, but it's comments like these that put you right next to the television evangalists.

Well, I don't think it is quite fair or logical to use one comment to "place me next to" anyone, at least not without identifying what specifically you mean by "television evangelists" and what characteristics of theirs you don't like and which of those you think I share. I know what you mean about them having a negative connotation for non-Christians, I mean about how strong they come on and how they speak entirely in "Christianese," and stuff like that, but it's hard for someone to decipher exactly what you had a problem with when you make a general grouping statement like that. Just so you can more easily make it clear to people in the future what you have a problem with instead of just giving them a label or classification that might not make it clear what you are taking issue with. You don't come across as insulting, or as trying to be, just that you want people to be accountable for everything they say and everything their actions say about them, which is great and really forces Christians to be careful in their word choice and ( ... )
