You were actually quite near where I live this time! I have been to that Roman fort - the Saalburg - a few times, it's basically Kaiser Wilhelm' s idea of what a Roman fort should have looked like. I don't know if you noticed the earthworks near it? (Basically ridges along the road) but those are the Limes (pronounced leem-es), and they are the remains of Roman fortifications that extend through a lot of this area and are under the UNESCO world heritage. The town nearby is Bad Homburg, it's terribly posh. Oh and by the way, I expect you have the shot because you have been to so many weird places, but re walking through the forest here - there are a lot of encephalitis carrying ticks in this area.
It was really hard to get a picture of! Too big to get a picture from up close, too many buildings in town, and we were never on one of the neighboring hills.
yeah I really like castles. And it was nice being out in the countryside. Too often when one travels one spends too much time stuck in the city centers of big cities and that's not quite as nice /:

But, all of it. The castle, the city, the umbrella duel...
It all looks great!

The castle the couple was married in was quite pretty. The trip sounds nice and the forests-- woods are quite lovely even with the bugs!

Woods, castles, abandoned buildings, even old foundations and falling down shacks.

If I was ever over that way I'd love to roam about looking at old castles.
Great photos and words as always
