Oh, I really liked the end! A bit of Sci Fi mystery is always welcome, especially with such a nice idea :)
(But I'm wondering now who really would have won the chess game. They'd probably have gone on playing forever :D)

I do think he's called "Arthur Conan Doyle" without the hyphen though, isn't he? As far as I remember, "Conan" used to be one of his first names. And Wikipedia thinks so, too.

*slaps forehead* Thanks for pointing it out. It's because I have a hyphenated name that I must have done it without thinking. I'll change it now.

And yes, I was originally planning to have a winner but then I realised that I had no idea who would have won...and even if there was a winner the game would probably have lasted forty years or more.
