First, a great Pip story. Someone taught him the letter names of the keys on the piano. So on Christmas I played a couple of notes (all white keys) and asked him what note they were, and he identified them all correctly. Then I played a G-sharp/A-flat and asked him what that was. He said "aaaa..." and kind of trailed off, thought for a bit, and ( Read more... )

He's 18 months and she's 2.5 months younger. They're both fairly tiny in terms of weight (around the 5th percentile) but probably 25%ish in height?

Lily is actually three and a half months younger than William -- but she's like 55th% or 65th% for height, and only 3rd % for weight.

Heh, my brain went "August, September, half of October" and completely forgot to count all of July.

I am so pleased about your knitting bag...I ached for you losing all that irreplaceable stuff, and honestly I thought it was gone forever. Happy event for today!

Emily does that every winter (licks her lips and around her mouth so much it gets really chapped& ugly). Now she'll let us put "lip gloss" on her lips, but usually I have to sneak in at night after she's asleep and put something on around her mouth. Drives me nuts.

Can you maybe put something edible but icky flavored in the lip balm so he won't lick it off? I worry that it might cause him to hate it altogether, or rub it off with his hand, but who knows.

I was about to suggest the same thing, something really icky tasting.

Yeah, we're trying to figure out what. He certainly doesn't get the tasty lip balm.

I imagine the other side of that coin is that if it's something that tastes bad he'll refuse to have it on in the first place. Just plain Vaseline is pretty gross, though not actively bad-tasting. But I hate getting some of that in my mouth, and it has the added bonus of being so gooey that it'll probably have a chance to do some good before he chews it off, if he does. Or maybe something kind of mentholated, like plain Chapstick? It has a smell, but not a foodlike one.
