yarn dilemma

I've got various bits of handspun stuff that I personally don't like that much, but don't really feel it's good enough to actually sell. I'm never going to use it, but the idea of throwing it away? Not so much. There's commercial yarn I'm probably never going to use, too, which could use a new home ( Read more... )

Strangely enough I have the same (but non moth) handspun dilema right now. But I'm sure your "not good enough to sell" is way better than mine.

As for the moth problem- just tell whomever is recieving it that up front. "I've had moths in the past, but I am reasonably sure this is moth free. I have taken all precautions to get rid of any in it."

Can you microwave it or something?

Yeah, freezing and microwaving can be useful.

And if all else fails, there's Freecycle.

Does bagging-and-freezing destroy wool moths the way it does other insect infestations? I've successfully "cured" feathers of bird-lice, flour of weevils and any number of other buggy problems that way.

And then you could throw a stash exchange. You know, in your copious free-time. (-:

Yeah, I have a in-then-out-then-in-the-freezer quarantine rotation going for anything that showed signs of being *near* moths. It takes a couple days in, a couple out, a couple in. It kills off anythign that hatched, and the cold-then-warm encourages any existing eggs to hatch, then re-cold again to kill 'em off.

Well, then, if you choose to give it away just tell the recipients, "Here's the deal, we've had moths, I've given this the freezer treatment and I'm pretty sure it's clean - but you may want to freeze it again to be sure." Voila!

Black Sheep Gathering next weekend. I'm assuming you and kathrynt won't be making it down this year, my dear enablers, but I'll try to do you both proud.

Q keeps muttering about finding a way to go, but I think she's fooling herself. Me, yeah, I'll be home.

Find someone who already *has* wool moths, et voila!
