Oooh, cool! I will be listening with great interest. We've already discussed accents and podficcing to death, but I think it's great that you're pushing your boundaries and putting it out there anyway. I've just finished reading that totally awesome Chav!Eames fic that's floating around and I'm thinking of asking the author if I can podfic it, since I can do posh British, a fair chav impression and (hopefully) an American accent for Arthur. This is the plan, anyway.
Apparently, so I hear on the grapevines, LJ's had an attack or a hack or something and it's gone a bit wonkey. People keep getting worried that it'll close down, but there've been scares like this in the past which came to no ill. I have taken an opportunity to back up all my fic on the AO3 archive, though, just in case.
Ahahaha! Oh, wonderful! I actually totally failed at posting this entry, decided to give up and wait until morning, and as it happens it kinda-half posted it anyways. <3 Imagine my surprise when you'd commented on an entry I hadn't thought I'd posted! Livejournal is messed up, and the internet is wonderful.
I'm so pleased you'll have a listen! It's a really wonderful story, and I'm kinda in love with it. With it and Edmund Pevensie. (Boyfriend and I watched the new Voyage of the Dawn Treader for the first time a few days ago, and I'm back into Narnia fandom a tad hardcore. It was a lovely film, though. <3) This post actually partly emerged due to our discussion of accents and podfics! I figure, I listen to Americans reading Sherlock stories all the time, and I can enjoy that just fine. Plus, I'm not even American! Perhaps that will help? I have no idea. :P

I'm not too worried about doing different accents. I mean, I lived in the US, so I know I can at least do that passably, and I know from recording previous things that I'm much more likely to indicate a change in character by changing my accent than changing my tone of voice. It's easier with TV and film characters, though, because then it's just a case of trying to mimic the actor. Although, in the case of chav!accent, it'll be more a case of remembering my secondary school :S
I need to do some tests before I really have a crack at anything. I don't want to promise the author something and then have real trouble with it.
I'm going to listen to this today, while shopping, btw. V. much looking forward to it :)
For sure, for sure. I'm really excited to listen to you do Inception podfic, because the accent performances alone are going to be super exciting. I've heard you do a great job switching accents in podfic before -- mad old Irish Moriarty comes to mind -- so I know you can kick ass at it. :D And ahahahaha oh dear, secondary school. :/ JUST THINK OF IT AS LIFE EXPERIENCE TO BE USED AS PRACTICE FOR PODFIC?
Aheehee, hurrah. :) Podfic while shopping is such a delight. I hope you enjoy it, and that it makes your shopping even better. <3
Out of curiosity (as I slowly continue exploring this strange world of podfic) I'm not in Narnia fandom at all, but I did go through an obsessive phase with the books when I was a kid. Will the fic work for me if I only know the books/old BBC series?
Also, in case this wasn't clear, I get so happy every time I see a new podfic by you. You are actually luring me out of my safe, familiar circle of fandoms.
Oh, it will most certainly work! Even better, in fact. I only mentioned the new movies as I figured that more people may be immediately familliar with them than with the wonderful books/audiobooks/BBC drama, as I was. Do not worry! Being hardcore in Narnia fandom = not necessary to understand or enjoy this fic. :)
(Also, oh my god the old BBC series is my favourite thing in the whole world. I watched it over and over so much when I was a kid. SO MUCH. Glad to find a fellow BBC series lover!)
Podfic is such an interesting world, isn't it? It drives me into fandoms I've never been into, as well. Someone I love posts a podfic in an unknown fandom, and I immediately wonder if I can listen and have any idea what is going on just to hear that person's voice telling me a story. I'm really honoured to be someone who is luring you out of your circle of fandoms, dear! :) I love your comments, and I do ever so hope that you enjoy this story. It's really wonderful; you're going to love it. Do let me know what you think of my telling of it!
Yes, the BBC series was amazing, I used to rent it from the library every few weeks until finally my mother decided it would be cheaper just to buy The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe than keep renting it indefinitely. In my head Aslan really is a giant, gentle puppet.
Thanks for the head's up! I will be downloading to listen... just as soon as I escape this coffeeshop and return to the land of unrestricted internet access. (Silly blocked servers.)
I just finished listening to Inches and Miles, and you've completely blown me away. Conclusion: I would rather an intelligent reader with an engaging voice capture the mood and shifts of the story in a foreign accent than tolerate a poorer reading in any accent. You drew me in so much that I hardly noticed your accent at all, I was just living in the world.
Off to comment on the fic, too, since I hadn't read it. That is the proper thing to do, yes? Rather than assume the author would see my comment here?
Oh, love. Thank you so, so much for this comment. It honestly just made my entire evening. <3 I so, so appreciate you coming back with your comments, especially as this is a fairly unusual fandom and it's unlikely I'll get much feedback at all. And this... God, this was just lovely. *hugs you through the internets
