This is the next-to-last time I'll ever be able to use this icon. Next will be for the landing, and then it'll be retired like the shuttles.

I am so jealous of those on my f-list who have gotten to see a launch up close. I've only got to watch them on TV, but that's enough.

I feel a kinship with the shuttle program. The first launch was 4 months ( Read more... )

Beautiful picture! I, too, was kind of hoping for a weather delay, in my case a three-day delay so I could see it in person, but so long as it launched safely that's the only thing that matters. I think you can use that icon as long as you want, even after space shuttle retirement ( ... )

I had a feeling you'd correct anything I missed. My best friend took a picture of the MPCV when it stopped in Austin on its way to the Cape, because she's AWESOME and loves me. :)

The Ares were the ones that used the SRBs, right? I really hate how people right now are all, NASA IS TOO EXPENSIVE! It gets, what? 0.5% of the budget? When it used to get almost 5% during the 60s and that was okay by the American people.

Re: meteorology. I would have been able to do it, but in a long crappy saga, I got screwed and couldn't pay for it. Right now I have only about 60 hours of college. On top of that, I have dyscalculia, which is the numbers version of dyslexia. This causes me to be completely unable to remember numbers in the right order. The one semester I attended UT-Austin, I took a meteorology course. I was totally failing because I just couldn't hack the math. However, I'd love to do something at NASA, even just clerical (since that's all I'm really qualified for, at the moment). One day. I have to get my shit together first. :)
