Here's the deal. A very, very long time ago, I signed up for a table at 100_situations. At the time, it seemed like a good idea - I would write, and the prompts would provide me with jumping off points

Ack. I see a table, and I have horrible flashbacks to high-school chemistry or something. lol.
Okay, so, I picked "need."
Merriam-Webster defines "need" as "a physiological or psychological requirement for the well-being of an organism." Logan claims, when they break up, that Veronica doesn't need anything. Not from him, anyway. I would like to see a case made otherwise. :)
But if it's too... something, please, please don't feel obligated! :)
Oh, no, this is perfect. I can actually envision two possibilities for this fic, one considerably kinder than the other. Would you prefer fluff, or unrelenting harrowing depression?
Would you prefer fluff, or unrelenting harrowing depression?
OMG! lol, when you put it like that, you kind of make up my mind without even trying! As much as I love your brand of unrelenting harrowing depression -- "All the PI's Men" are leaving deep scars on my soul right now! -- I think I'd have to go with fluff. Just something about the prospect of being unrelentingly and harrowingly depressed doesn't warm me up. :))
I picked "admit", since I've always wanted to see Veronica admit that she loved Logan, needed help, wasn't always right...any of the above. The prompt that came to mind was Veronica admitting to herself, as she watched Logan sweet talk someone to help her on a case, that he was good at this. Then she, of course, admits to herself, and him, how she feels about him. :-)
I always loved their banter, and enjoyed how they worked together to find his Mom. I thought RT and the writers missed a great opportunity by not having them do that more often.
How about for Haze, you do an AU where Dick did have GHB in the flask that Veronica drank out of (and that still annoys me to no end) and she ends up drugged at Parker's b-day party?
I feel like in Veronica's warped and twisted world, she's put so much of the blame on Madison for her rape (when really, the responsible parties were Cassidy and Duncan and to some extent Dick) that she fails to adhere to any sort of "Justice for Madison." If Dick had drugged Madison as he intended, then it would have been fine because they were dating. Because Madison passed her drink off to Veronica, in Veronica's twisted word she's culpable, not Dick, even though he was the one responsible for the drugging. I think our girl isn't quite right in the head (or maybe we were supposed to interpret Madison as knowingly slipping her GHB).
Though I'm certainly not in love with Dick like some of this fandom is (how can anyone think Mac/Dick is a good idea, seriously?), I do tend to see him as dumb but (mostly) harmless. In other words, that was a really wordy way to say "I look forward to the opportunity to tap into Richard Casablancas Jr.'s dark side."
That's the only way you can really rationalize her behavior toward him and Madison, right? But you're right that it's still very twisted, and it makes me cringe that Veronica was still considered a great female role model after the show ended. She definitely was earlier in the series, even though she always had issues, but with some of the things that happened later and how the show never got anywhere near touching most of her hangups...ugh
( ... )
All this talk of season three has me so depressed that I had to pop the pilot in. We just had the scene on the beach with Backup... my dog started barking at him, lol.
I spend a lot of time psychoanalyzing Veronica to try to rationalize her behavior in season three (this coming from a girl who's never taken a psych class in her life). In some ways, her behavior makes sense as the culmination of her untrusting, antisocial behavior of the first two seasons. Mostly, though, it leaves me with an unsympathetic, unlikeable heroine to "fix" in fan fiction. I accept your haze challenge, of course. It'll be awhile before I get to any of them, though, not until I'm done with All the PI's Men.
I though I read somewhere that you wouldn't be writing anymore VM fic... that's not true, is it? Like a Rolling Stone is probably my favorite VM fic, hands down.

Hell, how about I write two of the three and you can decide which one you like best?
