Vienna was not really part of the plan, but I ended up here on a layover, awaiting a train to Budapest tomorrow morning. Arrived after midnight and just got back from a long walk around: maybe my blood is just boiling from all the sugar I've eaten (literally had naught else today but 1.33 apples and a bu-uu-nch of candy), maybe it's the random ( Read more... )

Also, if you have a free afternoon in Vienna, I LOVE the folklore museum. Absolutely worth checking out.

(Pictures of this museum as well as the Communist Statue Garden are on my site if you feel like having a look.)

ah, swiss currency! i miss switzerland way too much. i love that the 5 swiss franc coin is so huge and ridiculous while the 1/2 franc coin is supremely tiny. also, if you ever find yourself in switzerland again, please devour an entire bag of zweifel paprika chips. that stuff kept me going for two months straight.

the only "good" vienna story that i have is when i got separated from my friend on the tram, then managed to get lost myself underground, and finally ran into her on the street right after she'd gotten a tattoo and her nose pierced. it was just one of those random moments when we were both like "oh, heeeey, there you are..." and "uh, did you have that before? b/c i totally didn't notice if you did." unfortunately for storytelling, vienna has been nothing but completely lovely and kind to me.

I can't even tell you how validating it is to read of someone else's crush on tom hulce/amadeus. he gives me the whim-whams!

i LOVE vienna. it is indeed a pity that you don't have more time. there is so much to see and do (and eat and drink). don't forget that it is the setting for the romcom of all time, before sunrise.

depending how early your train is, perhaps you can hit up a cafe or at least pick up something from a konditorei. i recommend cafe prückl; it's the least stuffy of the famous ones.

Vienna is gorgeous. Make sure you buy some Mozartkugeln - the pricier the better. They are the best chocolates in the world.

I used a tampon for the first time on a family holiday to Vienna. Unofrtunately this corresponded to a time in my life when I was a severe hypochondriac. Shortly after putting the damn thing in I had convinced myself I had Toxic Shock Syndrome and that I was going to die.

Had a great time though.
