I'm too old to understand how fandom works on Tumblr, I'm afraid. I do browse it occasionally, but I cannot get the hang of it when there's fic and feedback involved. But probably that's because my own Tumblr is just a picture that I take, and they're really not that good at all! LOL! I've never thought about using that platform for fics, but I'm glad you feel at home there and you are stimulated to write more and improve your English through fanfiction - I started writing in English to improve my language too! I have to admit that writing fanfics in English did wonders for my grades back in high school! :D

Speaking for myself. I'd didn't have comments up there because a) Torino didn't and I was copying it from her and b) I just don't get that many comments. I just check and the top number of comments. (or rather comment threads on the stat page) was 4. The next 4 all have 3 threads. That doesn't actually tell me much

I see. I was just a bit... hmm... not upset, but surprised that people wouldn't publish the stats of their comments as well. Because it's right under Kudos in the "Statistics" page and to me comments are an integral part of fandom. But as I said, that might be because I still haven't moved on from that way of thinking that is deeply-rooted in the other archives where comments are the only way of reaching out to an author

it helps, i think, to think of a kudos not as reveiw you missed out on but some feed back that you would have never got if there wasn't the kudos system

That's how I look at kudos. Anything is more encouraging than radio silence!

I'm very sorry you'd feel attacked or think that I'd consider you stupid because you were curious about these things. Probably, I was too direct or my tone was wrong - to be quite honest (and here yes, I'll play the not native card) I always have a hard time choosing the right tone in a language different from mine -, but I did read more than one person on my flist asking these same questions, and since I didn't reply to any of them because I didn't have time, I decided to reply to all of them here. I would have replied to everybody just like that, had I had the time, because that's what I really think. E-rated fics have a higher Hit Count. That's what I do think, and that what would have been my answer to all these posts. I don't think you're stupid, but if you're asking something, I'll answer with what I think it's the best answer

I mostly thought mine was interesting just at which fics had traffic and which fics did not.

I posted a while ago about my hate/love relationship with kudos and how people generally leave those instead of comments. While I love love love getting comments, fandom has really shifted over to a facebook "like" mentality instead of a ff.net comment mentality. I rarely get comments. But I do get kudos.

For me, I guess there just wasn't a point to talking about the comments (all my best ones come from you tbh)... the count changes anyway, since I reply back, which adds more comments to the fic.

Oh God yes! I did reply to your post about kudos, didn't I? I think I mostly hate them because of two things: 1. (As I said) because I really don't get that many. :-/ I see all these fics where the Kudos count goes up up up in days and I just look at my Kudos count and it stays the same for days. So I suppose it's a case of "the fox and the grapes": if I can't reach them I don't like them. 2. Because it's a lazy way to let someone know that you've enjoyed their story - or that you haven't enjoyed it that much, just a little bit, enough for a kudos, not enough for a comment. Ugh. It just makes me so unhappy to see that there's no exchange between readers and authors anymore, thanks to kudos. And comments numbers decreased dramatically everywhere for me, compared to the beginning. My horrible stories that I wrote when I was a teenager have four times the amount of reviews of my newest stories, which are not that horrible. And I when I talk about comments on AO3 I certainly don't mean quantity, I mean quality.

Well the Ron/Ginny one was a smutty Claus fic from 2005 that had been hosted at journalfen and Rebecca and I just learned that all those fics are gone because JF is offline. I happened to have it hosted at another site to, so I copy/pasted it over to AO3. So it isn't exactly new.

I totally get it about the comments. I miss them too. But I think actual feedback is something people who started life before AO3 do over people who came into fanfic later after being heavily influenced by Facebook. I do see them as lazy. But I feel like ... At least it's something. Like Daye said... Not a review that was missed.

Just a different way of expressing "hey I enjoyed this, well done".
