Fighting Moods

I'm not sure which of these three did the trick, but I would guess that it was a combination of them... First, some background. See, I've been slowly moving stuff in. Having a storage facility lease that was arranged as a one-year lease is an awesome thing. It is helping a lot since I don't see the unending stack of boxes to unpack all the time. ( Read more... )

Ah I love lists. Every time I feel like something I need to do (most especially at work) is so huge I don't know where to begin -- and then get stuck on that sole thought -- I make a list and break it down as best as I can into smaller parts. I keep a Fisher Space Pen (the tiny bullet shaped ones) and some halfsize index cards in my pocket at all times, since you never know when you need to write something down (I just used it at the beach yesterday!) or work something out on paper.

The one year lease thing is such a good idea. I too would feel overwhelmed by a large number of unpacked boxes and would end up leaving a bunch of them packed for quite awhile. Even 7 years later I think I have 2 or 3 boxes that I never got around to unpacking when I moved in back in 2000.

Every time I've moved before, I've had that. Boxes that just got piled up somewhere and forgotten because I got tired of looking at them. I'm finding that the unit really helps with that. I still have a few boxes and bags around the house, but several of them are in the "need to get that shelving unit/bookcase/whatever set up before I'll have space for these items".

I never really got into lists before, but I can certainly see why you do it now. The ones that I use at work are to scare off other people: "Current priorities: 1. Project A; 2. Project B; 3. Manager-assigned Foo. Not on here? Talk to Bossman." Otherwise, I have a ticket system that helps as well, so writing up lists is kinda redundant. Thus, it's rather novel for me to have these little lists on iCal to help with it. The best part about using iCal for it is that I can them have them imported onto my iPod. Nice and portable! Once I dig out my PalmPilot from the boxes of stuff, then that will sync with it as well.
