Prayers for Bobby

If you have a couple of hours and a new box of tissues, I recommend watching Prayers for Bobby. I admit I had a tough time watching it, Sigourney Weaver as Mary Griffith was channelling my mother. It shows how far we've come, and how far we've yet to go. And it broke my damn heart.

It was beautifully done, and the acting was great (gods I love Sigourney Weaver), but damn, it hurt.

I watched it, I taped it, I cried.
I haven't gotten it together enough to watch it again. I also read about the real story verses what was presented by Lifetime to get a wider audience.
The son was more flamboyant and sexually active then presented on the TV show. He had a harder time walking in the world then just from his mother. Because of the rejection from more then just his mother he was very self destructive. It is so sad.
I also watched the Haggard interview on Oprah and was also upset at how twisted and destructive one can live ones life. And how sick religion can be. This man makes me both sad and angry.

Yeah, I read in The Advocate about the changes they made to Bobby's character--mainly because they wanted to focus on Mary's intolerance and highlight it, and make Bobby more 'accessible'. It's a sad story nonetheless.

I haven't seen the Haggard interview but I heard about it.
