completely unspoilery title about the X-Files movie

Jul 25, 2008 02:51

1. Completely unspoilery preamble to the fact that I have watched the X-Files movie. A serious review follows - I actually do write reviews for films, though I'm about fifteen films behind on my total right now (urk, never going to catch up), but as you can tell from my backlog, I'm out of practice. This took me ages. But anyway, I wrote my ' ( Read more... )

I HAVE NOT READ THIS BECAUSE I DO NOT WANT TO SPOIL MYSELF. I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT I APPROVE OF YOUR MUSIC.

THAT IS ALL.

BUT ALL THAT TANTALISING CAPSLOCK. HOW DID YOU KEEP YOUR EYE AWAY FROM IT?! ;) Ooh, you want to go see this too? Hope you enjoy it!

And OMG. Julia was being so sassy during the concert. I LOVE her dancing story. "So JULIA said... 'that's what everyone wants'." MWAHAHA.

I AM RESISTING. BECAUSE I AM STRONG LIKE THAT.

I've never really followed XFiles as closely as I did say, Buffy or Star Trek, (I know, I'm a bad sci-fi geek) but I do enjoy pretty red-headed women. so.

OH JULIA. I ♥ YOU AND YOUR AUDITIONFAIL. "I'd rather eat glass." HA!

NO EATING OF GLASS, JULIA, OR YOU WOULD RUIN YOUR PRETTY PRETTY VOICE.

OMG REDHEADED WOMEN. (I LOVE THAT JULIA IS SORT-OF A REDHEAD NOW. DUDE, I HAVE SUCH A ONE-TRACK MIND.)

BUT, BACK TO THE POINT. GILLIAN. FREAKIN'. ANDERSON. I HAD THE HUGEST CRUSH ON HER FOR THE LONGEST TIME. STILL DO. SHE IS AHMAZING AND ILHER. ♥

Oooh, you've seen it already? Awesome! There aren't too many people who have on the flist, apparently. I'm glad you agree with me. Objectively, the film just... wasn't fantastic. As an X-Phile, however, THERE WERE CAPSLOCK WORTHY MOMENTS EVERYWHERE. FLAIL AND A HALF.

Yep, twice actually. And I'm going to see it again tonight. I'm already suffering Mulder/Scully-withdrawal! :P

I know what you mean! I kind of feel bad, because we were waiting for it for so long, and now I'm underenthusiastic about the plot...does that make me a bad fan? I hope not. I still love them as much as everyone else does.

Yay for seeing it again! I'd have seen it again this weekend except that I'm leaving the country for a bit. BAH. Fail. I shall have to make up for that next week. :P

And OMG, it's okay. You're not a bad fan! It's not like there weren't some mediocre episodes in the series too, that were greatly improved by the cast and the ship, you know? And I DID like this one, it just wasn't BRILLIANT. I guess we shouldn't have been hoping for that? Sigh.

I didn't read your review (well, not the serious one), mainly because 1) I'm like weeks behind on my flist and giving up on catching up and too tired to focus, and 2) I never really followed the show all that carefully so I would have no idea what you're talking about, BUT-- I felt the need to comment anyway.

Is Gillian Anderson looking a little thin? She still looks gorgeous, I don't think there's any way she could ever not, but she looks like she needs to put on some weight.

I'm glad you enjoyed it though! It's always so dangerous to make a movie based on a TV show long after it ends (although I'm still holding my breath for a Xena movie, more than 7 years after the series ended), even when there's already been a movie before. It sounds like it was worth making though, so yea!

LOL, you only read the capslock flail!? oh dear. I provide a slightly more balanced view in the serious review, largely because I didn't think the movie itself was any great shakes. It was, at best, a mediocre XF episode from one of the not-great seasons, unfortunately. But the shippy moments more than made up for it, hence the flail.

Gillian didn't look all that bad to me - quite the contrary, really. ;) She's put on quite a bit of weight since, actually: she's expecting again, so she's doing the publicity rounds with an absolutely GORGEOUS pregnancy glow.

For the fandom part, it was good crack. Is there any talk about whether a Xena movie would happen? That would be interesting - though I'm not in that fandom at all, so wouldn't know. And hey, if a movie for us can happen after six years... who knows?! ;)

I did, sigh. I just figured the plot related stuff would make no sense to me so I only skimmed. Sometimes good ship moments are better than quality anyway.

I've mainly been seeing pics of Gillian from some entertainment websites that I would not be surprised to learn are using crappy airbrushed stuff, so I'll take your word for it. But yea for her!

There's been talk of a Xena movie since the show ended in 2001, but there are two major holdups--some kind of battle over the rights, and the issue that while the fanbase is RIDICULOUSLY loyal, it's also kind of small in terms of recouping the cost of a venture that large. But there are a couple producers and a writer attached to the "if we can ever get this off the ground" venture. I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

The plot shouldn't actually MATTER in this film, in this thing. No aliens or weird conspiracy shit, so it actually can be understood by non-Philes. (I'm a Phile and I STILL don't understand it at all, wtf.) Ship moments are the MAIN THING I got out of this film, for serious.

Here's a picture of Gillian at the US XF premiere. That's pretty damn gorgeous, if you ask me. ;)

I guess that the small fanbase IS a problem - with XF being the crazy cult hit that it is, there's always going to be a built-in audience who'll go for repeat viewings (yours truly is also guilty of this, LOL) and help at least break even that way. I'll cross my fingers for you too, now that we've got OUR sequel. ;)

I can't read this cause I'm in the stupid UK and can't see the movie for... I don't even know when it's out for real. BUT I'm totally going to Leicester Square as early as I legally can on Wednesday to mark my spot for the London premiere!

Aims:
- See David & Gillian
- Not get squished
- Steal a poster board :)

It's out August 1, no? That's what all my friends have told me anyway, and that's when all the huge XF conventions will be starting. BUT OMG. LEICESTER SQUARE. If you go, please to be taking photos of David and Gillian AND THAT POSTER BOARD YOU'RE GONNA STEAL, KTHX. :D

Yes! Will be taking many many millions of pics. Hopefully some with the camera pointing in the right direction. I have friends coming with me (who understand) so I'll be putting them on photo duty too. I'm told it's totally acceptable to steal poster boards so I'm bloody gonna try! And take multiple pics if I do!

I can't wait to be seeing these pictures! Do share when you get them up. :D

STEAL THOSE POSTER BOARDS OMG THAT WILL BE SO SO AWESOME LOL.
