Tell me about your name!

As I try to decide what I want my new journal name to be (I have it narrowed down to three and can't decide which one I like best), I realized I don't know what most of my friends' user names mean, and now I'm curious.

If you feel comfortable sharing, I'd love to know how you came up with your name and why you chose it. I can't believe I've known ( Read more... )

My true name is Wendalyn. Most people call me Wendy, but I call myself Dally.

Playing D&D many years ago I had an elf called Gwendal. It all flows together.

Oh, I love that!

Do your clients know you as Wendy or Dally? Or Wendalyn? Or rather, what is your professional name?

I think i've said this before, but Suegypt is something Mr.'s old friends called me back in the day, as they were all fans of Captain Beefheart, as am I. He had a song called Sue Egypt, and my name is Sue, so. I saw no need for the extra e

my original LJ name was foxxfire9 after my old email address and as a kid my mom had a set of those foxfire books and I thought they were fabulous. When I wanted to let go of the old I still wanted to keep part of my name and most of my LJ friends would refer to me as foxx or foxxy when tagging me in stuff. I like the funny play on Pandora's box, so Pandora's fox it was.

and this seems really strange now, but I don't remember how we met on here.

I know it was around 2011 because that's when we were in Elgin. And I think it was that I got to know you in the comments of someone else's journal (ilwitchgrrl?)

The origins of my user name is somewhat boring...

On forums I have the username "catgirl", but when I was setting up my Live Journal account that name was already taken.
I hadn't thought much about user names before starting the process as I expected to be 'catgirl'

I kept trying name after name after name after name, but LJ kept coming up with reasons on why I couldn't have them.

In sheer desperation I used the first three initials of my maiden name followed by_jazz. I choose 'jazz' simply because at the time my daughter was in the next room playing jazz on her sax.
As a user name I don't think that it's very good

I don't think it's boring, I think it's interesting. Similarly, I've chosen passwords based on what music was playing at that moment!

Yeah, LJ keeps telling me I can't have a name for one reason or another, and it's not always because someone else has the name, but it won't tell me why I can't use it. LJ is a woefully ancient platform in many ways - I wish they'd do a major upgrade.
