Fires of Pompeii blow-by-blow

Blow-by-blow reaction to Fires of Pompeii, in a style shamefully stolen from ionlylurkhere's immortal Ghost Light redux. But with rather fewer screencaps and far less entertainment value. Squee, grump, and capslock lurk behind the cut: Abandon all grammar, ye who enter here.

Spoilers. But you knew that. )

I caught that reference, but mostly during that scene I was wondering what the hell the TARDIS was doing in Atia's mansion. (Rome fan here.)

(Speaking of, oh, God, I hope they're not heading for a Lady of Mercy set-up. Discipleship was already quite unkind enough to Martha.)

I'd bet the farm on it. Rusty telegraphs the characterization in the name. I'm still betting on a pieta image before we're done of Donna cradling the Doctor's body in her lap.

OH THE MACROS I COULD MAKE

Please do!

I'm thinking this will not end well for Donna. From Wikipedia: One of the distinguishing marks of the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy is that, since its foundation, its members are required to take a Fourth Vow to exchange themselves for another who is in danger of losing their Faith.

Because I'm easy for this stuff, a pieta would probably make me squeak a whole lot. Probably has to do with my batshit for the sculpture and how all my attention goes to the mother's crushed expressionlessness. And yes, it'd make for some awesome macros. =D

Donna as his mother is weird, though.

EVEN MORE UNEXPECTED FUCKING PROPHESY ABOUT ROSE. At least, most signs point to Rose.

I am so sick of Rose at the moment! I've stopped caring! I cried during Doomsday and then I got over it! One more freaking Rose moment and my brain might explode!

Although the prophecy fight between the two characters regarding Gallifrey was pretty cool. Just sayin'.

For me, I don't think it was Rose so much; I just watched "Partners in Crime" finally, and thought the ending was rather nifty. The prophesy bit bugged me because the scene had been rolling along like freakin' lava-and then we get something that we do have good reason to think is a Rose-reference, but there's just no reason for this seer to care, so it yanked me right out. :P

the prophecy fight between the two characters regarding Gallifrey was pretty cool.

And then some. That was fantastically well set up.

"Be more peculiar, damnit."

It's really weird. Because Ten is one great big generally overall dork, but all the other Doctor's are relatively normal or...something, seeming, something a bit stodgy, or something, with this one completely opposing characteristic of Great Eccentricity that bursts through it. It's so different.

My instinctive reacton to the "she's returning" line, if that's what you mean, is that it's referring to everything. Like, Everything. I DON'T KNOW HOW. But it makes sense to me somehow.

I would love it if it ends up meaning the TARDIS gets another day in the skin. We haven't seen Her for a while.

THAT WOULD BE AWESOME. I hadn't even thought of that. You are made of brilliant.

Also, theory as to why it took some convincing for Ten to save the family even though he's got a tradition of saving stragglers: he was a bit caught up in being upset that he had to be responsible for the whole disaster and being nihilistic about the point of doing any good ("Haven't I done enough?!"), but of course Donna is there to give him kicks in the ass as appropriate. *shrug* Worked for me.
