[memes] Ask me about fandom

Jan 24, 2011 22:41

I have actual fic to post, but posting it will first require all those finicky last edits, and coding it, and fixing the coding, and coming up with a summary that doesn't suck, and euurrgghhh.

So have a couple memes instead. Ganked offa fandom_me and moon_blitz:

Ask me fandom-related questions. They can be fandom specific, general, or about fandom/lj stuff/fic ( Read more... )

fandom: supernatural, fandom: doctor who: gallifrey, fandom: doctor who: trial of a time lord, character: spencer reid, fandom: criminal minds, recs, memes, character: the valeyard

You know me too well. I'll have to do this in pieces, 'cause I've got so much. :P

First off: I do believe that the Valeyard is a Time Lord-made construct. Even though I'm writing the standard 13-is-really-the-Valeyard fic, my personal canon on it is, he's a constructed, partial being. I don't think it's as simple as the explanation we get in Trial, but I do think that there is Much Funny Business. So:

01. What would your character kill for? What would they die for?

Well, the first one's easy… but delineating the boundaries on it isn't. He'd kill for his autonomy. This means killing the Doctor. The question is, would he kill for his autonomy if it meant killing someone much more innocent? Well, he'll cheerfully kill the Time Lord council, but they're hardly innocent. For one thing, they pulled the Ravelox shit. For another, they created himBut would he kill Jamie? Harriet Jones? Leela? Peri? Or even just someone he met on the street, unless he could vet them and come up with a good enough reason for them to die? I ( ... )

04. What’s their biggest fear?

Remaining an incomplete, forever-rigid personality. I imagine it must be pretty terrifying not to be able to resist your own code.

05. What single object would they be most hard pressed to part with? Why?

His vinyl skullcap.

06. What is their fondest memory?

A trick question, because he's got memories and then he's got memories. But if we disregard memories that are actually the Doctor's… damn, there can't be much to work with. I'm going to say it was seeing the Doctor's face after he saw Peri's death. The man looked destroyed. And that's exactly what the Valeyard wants.

07. What is their worst memory?

Again a trick question, but playing by the same rules: Viewing the Matrix in preparation for the trial. Y'all know that I don't buy the happy ending paste-over about Peri; watching the Matrix info would have to be one fucked up head-trip. It's him onscreen, but it's not him; he's not responsible for what he's seeing, but he feels exactly like he is.

08. What or who was were their most ( ... )

09. What do they believe makes a successful life?

Making them pay.

10. What makes them laugh?

Not a hell of a lot, unless you count dry, sardonic chuckles.

11. What are their religious views?

What religious views? God didn't create him; the corrupt, asinine, pusillanimous Time Lords did. He knows the cosmic score.

12. What is their greatest strength?

Relentlessness. And a sense of justice, however neurotic and pathological.

13. Do they have a fatal flaw? If so, what is it?

His need to kill the Doctor to achieve his own autonomy.

14. Who is the most important person in their life?

The Doctor. For obvious reasons.

15. If they died, who would miss them most? How would they die?

His hairless Sphynx cat.

Three fandoms and your favorite cliche to read and/or write in each.

Oof. Gimme a few to think about that one.

Doctor Who: Martha bonding with the TARDIS in some way. At least, that's the only scenario I can find that I have sort-of written more than once.

Gallifrey (it totally counts as a separate fandom): Brax manipulating student!Romana. What can I say, I have a thing for fucked up mentorships. Haven't written it, but have read it.

Criminal Minds: Spencer Reid suffering, but mainly so I can deconstruct the fandom tropes surrounding it.
