Margaret M. Johnson includes this brownie and stout recipe in The New Irish Table (Chronicle Books 2003). According to Johnson, Grace Neill's is listed in the appropriately named Guinness Book of Records as the oldest bar in Ireland. It opened in 1611.4 eggs

Since you mention both in here, did you know that Guinness beer started the Guinness book of world records? It kind of brings that anecdote about Grace Neill's bar and the recipe into a full circle... or something. :) (unless you already knew it, and that's what you meant by 'appropriately named'... ok, I'm shutting up)

also-- what is superfine sugar? At first I thought it was like powdered/confectioner's sugar, but I saw that listed also...
