have you made or eaten this? As pieday (Friday) is approaching and I haven't made a pie in about a month and it is the first Pieday of cohabitation, I was going to make one for Tim. Can you vouch for this? or should I stick with a tried and true?
what i CAN vouch for is my very famous blueberry pie. honestly it's the only pie i've ever made and it is stupendous. i also have a vouched-for chocolate peanutbutter pie recipe. if you are interested in either of these, let me know and i'll email the recipes to you when i get home this evening....
I'll take the blueberry one, although they're pretty well past season now. (I can always use it next year.) I LOVE blueberry anything.
I tend to avoid richer pies like peanut butter and chocolate together. Tim might like it, but just thinking about it makes me want to drink a gallon of milk. ;)
good question. well, they look different. the deep dish is quite a bit deeper. however, i did not make my own crust. i bought a frozen pie crust and cooked the pie right in it, in the aluminum thingie it came in. i did still put it on a cookie sheet, and it was marvelous.
Our pies are always from scratch crust - TP's crusts are DIVINE! But all of our pie plates are "normal" looking - that's the same height as the aluminum store bought pie crusts, though, so it's probably fine. And, more importantly, we can make our apple pie in a pi pie plate and that always makes me giggle.

and yes, the choc/PB pie is the EPITOME of rich. and it demands gallons of milk, for sure. but sweet jesus it's yummy.
i'm hoping the chocolate pumpkin pie i'm making on saturday will be the perfect balance of sweet and savory. now THAT i'm pretty excited for.
