Might be a cliche, but it's not one that I've personally seen a lot. Normally I despise AUs along this vein (i.e. , where the characters occupy vastly different roles than they do in the shows they are from) but this is interesting enough for me to read it anyway and pretend it's not a fanfic. :P

As a reader, I'm real wary of AU's; as a writer, I love them, because it allows you to play with the characters in ways the normal universe may not allow.
