How much would you pay to hear
Peter S. Beagle read you
The Last Unicorn or A Fine & Private Place
aloud?

Yeah. I know.

There are also sample free downloads. And lots more stuff.

I think $30 is a good price. I was able to hear him read when he still lived in Davis, CA (and I was at school there) on a few very rare occasions and it really is a pleasure!

It's one of the books that changed my world. Thinking about him reading it fills me with Squeeee. And you know I don't Squeeee lightly.

I am one of those who bought special editions way back in 2006, so at some point I will be getting download versions as well. Truly, I can't wait. He has written 3 books (at least) that have made me who I am.

I also have this -amazing- cassette of him performing songs and filk and who knows what, live. I wish I had the necessary tools to convert it to CD. If you can scare up a copy, I highly recommend it. (If I had anyway to duplicate it, I'd bring you a copy to WisCon.)

I think it's for sale on the same site, actually.

No, that's a different one.

Actually, I found it! It's this one, apparently recorded at BayCon in '86.

It's pretty great.

You should already have received your downloads of the MP3 if you ordered from Conlan Press. If you didn't, poke Connor via e-mail with proof of purchase and he'll send you a download link. (I had to do this myself.)

I hate to be the parade rainer, but I paid a whole passel of money for the priviledge, four years ago.

And nothing ever came. Conlan was having some difficulties, we understood, we waited and waited and waited, and kept corresponding, and then--nothing.

I think we gave up after about a year and a half of trying to get the audiobook of The Last Unicorn and Two Hearts out of Conlan.

I love Peter S. Beagle's work, but I was really really disappointed with Conlan and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

Oh, dear. Well I just ordered a book from them for someone, and they say it's gone out.

Connor replies to complaints thread, above:

We're still having technical difficulties with sending out the whole mass of free downloads of A FINE AND PRIVATE PLACE (as a thanks to those people still waiting on our delayed LAST UNICORN CD audiobook with TWO HEARTS). But one at a time is doable. Just email me at connor@conlanpress.com with your original order name/number and I'll send you the download link.

Not to beat a long-decaying horse, but in case anyone is Googling around looking for info, I just wanted to note that they *STILL* haven't delivered this product. Even though Mr. Cochran claims they're updating customers via the newsletter, what the newsletter actually says is "See the updates page" -- which hasn't been changed in months.

Well, in three years I've delivered over 15,000 Beagle-related products to over 8,000 people, and manage to support/help/encourage him to complete more than 30 new stories, two new novels, and multiple new collections...so there is a plus side to the balance sheet as well as this one negative issue. And even this one we will eventually solve and put behind us.

My sincere apologies for the delay. And again, anyone can ask for a refund at any time. Happy to do that.

I think I would be as thrilled to hear Beagle reading from The Last Unicorn as I was to hear some professorial dude reading from a book about short people and magical jewelry, which, strangely enough, Beagle wrote an introduction for, for some weird reason.

I definitely can't afford an audiobook right at the moment, but I had the privilege of being part of the YA Lit track who hosted Peter and Connor at a viewing and commentary session for "The Last Unicorn" at DragonCon last year. (We also had one at the 2007 con, but space was so limited that Peter graciously consented to do it again for us.) I'm truly grateful that I had the opportunity, as Peter's insights and recollections really put the writing of the story and the development of the movie into context for me.
