More terrific cat stories needed

My reprint anthology is going well, but I'd like some more suggestions of GREAT cat stories--from after 1980. So forget the obvious ones like "Spacetime for Springers ( Read more... )

anthologies, cats

Sorry if this has been suggested already. I couldn't access the link. What about A Dance for Emilia by Peter S. Beagle. It's a lovely story, but perhaps it might be too long?

It asked me to sign into google and once I did said I didn't have access to the page or something like that. You should definitely check it out. It's been awhile since I read it, but I remember it being very sweet.

Here's the link on amazon:

Nuts. what do you see when you try to access it?

Anyway, it hasn't been suggested although a different Beagle has been --I don't recall having read "A Dance For Emilia"--I'll look it up. How long is it do you know? It looks like a short novel from the description on amazon.

Cat Sparks (heh) had a story featuring cats in Andromeda Spaceways Issue 1 "Reigning Cats and Dogs" as did (in a very different way), Trent Jamieson "The Catling God". I enjoyed both!

much as I'd like to.

I do want to do a "life with cats' (non-fiction) because that sort of thing appears to sell. But I also write about house-cat-sized (and smart-mouthed) dragonets and am working on a novel.

There's a great cat story in the new issue of ROF (of all places!), but I'm guessing reprint rights wouldn't be available for a while...?

Oh, it's "Healing Benjamin" by Dennis Danvers.

Whoops. It is SO past my bedtime...

Either that, or I missed it 'cause my eyes were blurred with tears from reading the story. ;)

On a related note, I once took a history of modern Japan course in which the professor mentioned a Japanese novel that was told from the perspective of a cat: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw_0_10?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=i+am+a+cat+soseki&sprefix=i+am+a+cat

You know, I just thought that people who are interested in this sub-genre might be interested in case they've never heard of this novel before.

That's fine.
Certainly there are a lot of stories (too many) from a cat's pov.

As a cat owner, you know that cats would argue that that's the only important POV. :-D
