This is, believe it or not, is another take on the same prompt that is responsible for A Business Trip, in case it turned out too dark. Not sure which one I'll finish--

The word "hobo" IS hilarious xD. Gelato is a word we use for fancy ice cream that's theoretically Italian-style... It's usually a little less creamy than normal ice cream.
No, I'm totally with you about how history lessons should cover stuff that happens outside of your own country. But it seems to be the case even within a country that you study the stuff that happened near you (or at least, it is here).

I think that a lot of the reason that the men here don't like to talk about the wars was exactly BECAUSE they were fought so far away from home. They came back from the war, to their wives and children, and didn't want to mix the two worlds. At least, that's the impression I've gotten. They just wanted all that stuff to stay in Europe.

God, I thought the English were very proud of their empire, I truly did. I've also been taught the English and Russians were the true heroes of WWII, but that's just because, as Hetalia tells us, we aren't very fond of Americans either, and I can just see Antonio helping Arthur write that curriculum as wellXD
(my teachers were also probably compensating for all that American films try to tell youXD)
Also amusing is how similar, in a way, most Europeans are, when teaching historyXD
(and I didn't know you didn't say those words so much! I'm...disappointed *hides in embarrassment*)

...the times when we did bad shit-- lots of stuff in Latin America comes to mind-- we don't learn about. But maybe that's normal?

The feeling that you're (willfully, many believe) deluding yourselves that you're doing something good is what I've heard criticised most around here.
Of course, chibi's feelings and experiences may be very different, because UK is totally different from the rest of Europe when it comes to USA xDDDDDDDDD

WE KNEW IT ALL ALONG
(Really, I've got to stop using this ubiquitous "we"... OTHER AMERICANS? I KNOW YOU'RE THERE!)

Though maybe that explains why Europe went out and pretty much colonised the world - we were all just sick of being invaded ourselves XDI think you're onto somethingXD ( ... )

(I always say that picture is my favourite Hetalia pic everXD)

That's interesting to hear that your two countries don't talk about the empire business too much. Do you have a sense for why? (You know. Aside from the, uh, repression and occasional genocide. Or is that the reason?)

Oh, and Phillippines is like the bastard child we never talk aboutXD. Most Spanish don't even know we once owned anything "in Asia"...but even when it was a colony of ours, we didn't care for it. The golden child of the Spanish colonies were always the Flemish Netherlands and Argentina (maybe Venezuela and Cuba too)

Most Americans (to my knowledge) don't know we had anything to do with the Philippines at all. But that's because we did bad stuff there, and we try not to think about it.
(There are parts of America-- mostly the rich liberal north-eastern parts-- that have that "everyone else does things right and we do things wrong" attitude about them. That's something that started developing here after Vietnam, I think. But more on that when I actually figure out what comment thread we were talking in...)
