What I posted this week isn't really The Archmage's backstory.
It's the backstory of the one who set the Archmage upon his eternal quest. THE ARCHMAGE WAS SO ASHAMED OF WHAT HE HAD DONE BEFORE HIS REFORMATION THAT HE CHANGED HIS NAME TO THAT OF HIS SAVIOR/MENTOR, IN ORDER TO HONOR HIS LORD ALL THE MORE.
When I said my story was a "saga"... I *MEANT* it.
The core concepts -- the immortal prince sailing through space for eternity -- came from when I was about six years old. However, I did make some refinements as time went on -- I came up sith the idea for the power source for the starship in my early teens, while I only realized that the "prince" was a genetically-engineered being just in the last couple of years.
Sounds like you really had quite the imagination when you were very young, but I like how it developed over time, too. I think the best ideas are the ones that can evolve like that.
Well, I can certainly relate to that feeling of losing what you once had. I used to be a prolific writer--folders and notebooks full of poetry; extensive journals chronicling my day; little stories here there and everywhere.
When I get compliments now, I think "if only you could have seen me then!"
AT least you tried to write your early ideas down.ellakiteFebruary 16 2013, 15:41:14 UTC
I really only seriously started recording my story ideas in the last few years; prior to that, I almost never tried to put them to paper. Oh, I'd work out the details in my head and tell my ideas to my closest friends... but the idea of getting them published was literally "unthinkable".
So the fact that I've forgotten so many of my early stories mean that they're well and truly gone" -- there is *NO* hope of my stumbling across some of my old writing some day, BECAUSE THERE *ISN'T* *ANY* *TO* *FIND*!
Then again, considering how childish certain aspects of my early tales were, I might literally cringe if I had to read through any of it today...

I have a confession to make...

Yes.
Don't all good sagas have layers?

There are times when I look back on those aspects of the tale and feel that they're childish and "over-the-top".
Thank you for letting me know that you feel so differently about these points.
