Do you know, this is the first time I've ever written one of these mythical essays? It was something I always read about in middle grade books growing up, but I never had a teacher who assigned it!  Anyway, the astute among you will note that it's not technically been summer for a bit here, but the Summer Season is winding down for me for a couple ( Read more... )

Thanks. Some weird sizing anomaly befell my Much Ado bodice, and it doesn't fit exactly like I want (it's too big in the waist, so the neat little pleats in back don't stand out like they should. See Emma Thompson's here: http://pic50.picturetrail.com/VOL417/1033223/23310958/388817670.jpg), but overall I think we turned out terrific! I want to make the right chemises and the tie-on sleeves the women wore in the movie, but those will keep.

Hee! It's weird how very green they look in the movies, but how completely *not green* they are IRL; they're just the naturally grey wool, woven in this extraordinary wavy pattern. You can see it really well in this picture of their teddy-bear-sized cloak (giggle): http://www.stansborough.co.nz/store/mini-fellowship-cloak/356,authentic-grey/product.aspx

It's weird how alike sewing and writing are for me: the same deep pondering before diving in; the same wonder if I'll be able to manage something ambitious I've tackled; the same frustration when I can't make something come out exactly properly on the first try; all the same sorts of construction dilemmas and emotional drama.

There's none of that in my stitching (cross stitch, embroidery, etc). Which is probably why it's so much more relaxing!
