Goodness! What happened to the time? Most of July and August was consumed by the soul-crushing, energy-sapping heatwave that smothered the midwest. There was also quite a bit of work on The New Book, and, of course, sewing. Lots and lots of sewing.

One of my extremely-long-term projects has been a chemise based on Caravaggio's 1598 portrait of St. Catherine. For years now, I've been collecting books, trying to get a really good look at what's going on in the embroidery at her neckline. Today I discovered a brand-new (to me, anyway), high-quality image online.

So, um... still working on the purple kirtle. It's coming along, if slowly. The bodice is complete and ready for eyelets (eek!). The seamstress, however, is not yet ready for eyelets (eek!). Hrm.

Ohmigosh, it's been FOREVER since I've been on here.

Blame a broken hard drive and the incredibly protracted process of getting that replaced and getting things (more or less) recovered. I've been away from the blog this week, going through the copyedits for Liar's Moon (which is now finished)!  I haven't been this excited about a book in a long time. In fact, last night I had the whole night free--I had hours and hours and hours to stitch, and yet I decided to work on the copyedits instead!
