RL is v. busy, so I come to procrastinate... Incidentally this chapter was the first part I wrote (and I have barely altered a word since) - the rest kinda grew around it. I considered posting it first, but in the end decided that I better do the story chronologically

It occurs to me, as I write, that I could have her killed if I wanted. I won’t. But I could. And I think I now - finally - truly understand my Master.

Trying to re-trace my steps (as it were) I think it all started with the 'Evil Overlord' list... except Lucy is *not* the sort of person to ever read that kinda thing. So how could she be familiar with it? Then I hit upon the idea of 'Amanda', and I began to see how Lucy could always have been a bit 'on the outside' - pretty, and from a good family, but 'not particularly bright' and not really ambitious in any way. So being not only noticed by someone like The Master, but actually *courted* by him would be hugely flattering, and it would most probably appeal to the part of her that always felt a little overlooked. (Just to waffle on at great length - hope you don't mind!)

I doubt anyone can marry someone like The Master, knowing what he is, and not be corrupted. (I'm remembering the look on her face when he talks about 'decimating'...)

I also loved her remembering that Amanda girl, and what she'd been like at the time-such a good little girl, meek, polite.

That part was utterly fascinating. Knowing that she wouldn't actually kill, but that she could, and relishing that power. Knowing the well-mannered little girl, who wanted to become a good wife, became this. Such revenge. ♥ And how it made her closer to the Master-her Master… (And oh, this is actually different from "my Doctor"-I just nailed what made me uncomfortable about it. "My Doctor" is the companion being possessive over the Doctor. "My Master" is the Master possessing her-but if we hold on tight to the mirroring and the fact that it's his name, it also gives her a hold on him. A lesser hold perhaps, but very much ( ... )

You've read The Top 100 Things I'd Do If I Ever Became An Evil Overlord, right?

And the conversion is complete...

My Master. My Master. Mutual dependency. My heart. ♥
Excellent insight!

I made my daughters read it a while ago. I thought it a necessary part of their cultural education.
