Too many thoughts, too little time. ( Lots of rambling under cut )

I don't know if anyone has mentioned the way murder is perceived in that 51st century that spawned both our Captains. It seems to be classed with drugs, alcohol, etc and rehab is the course of treatment. Both our boys saw nothing particularily "evil" in the idea of murder so our judgement must consider the context of their background. It also explains Cpt Jack's ease ion killing when he deems it necessary.

As for the poodle...I DO hope it was a Standard poodle not a miniture as my imagination would have to be really .... ahem... shortened if it were the little one!

Hmmm. Have you watched Doctor Who at all? Even when we first meet Jack he's trying not to kill anyone (although he'll happily scam them out of all their money). But there's still a big gap between that and actively trying to save people.

ETA: Actually, the killing people if necessary is something very much to do with Jack being a soldier, I think. There is a big difference between murder and killing in the line of duty.

Eeeek!

I can’t make my mind up if Jack was keeping Ianto ‘in reserve’ as it were, waiting to see how things would pan out with Gwen, or if he’d always intended to try to make his ‘relationship’ with Ianto more official.
Well more or less the first thing he says to the team is that he came back 'for you' looking straight at Ianto, so as a head-over-heels Jack/Ianto shipper I would definitely say he'd always intended to ask Ianto out ( ... )

Yes, I'm inclined to agree. It's just that the scene with Gwen is so strange. I've thought of two other explanations however: 1) Jack knows that she loves him, and realises how difficult it is for her, but can't do anything about it. 2) Her engagement highlights the fact that he *can't* have a 'normal' relationship with wife & children, because he won't age. (Same problem as The Doctor etc.)

I had forgotten all about that scene in Jack's ship when he thinks he's going to die - thanks so much for that, it is a brilliant contrast.
My pleasure. And I love that scene - it highlights both his bravery, but also the fact that he really has no one, and probably (like John) finds life pretty meaningless on the whole.

I think one of the greatest weaknesses of S1 was that they didn't explain why Jack was miserable.*nods a lot* (It ( ... )

there are few things I love more than two characters who know each other really, really well who fight without holding back. (Incidentally, the actors totally sell the instinctive intimacy and familiarity from first moment to last. I love it.)

I totally agree. Like Spike/Angel, the Jack/John relationship is completely squeeful. :)

Anyway, i am now dying to find out who ‘Grey’ is (it was ‘Grey’ right? It’s rather indistinct). The only person we know of from Jack’s past is his friend who was tortured to death, so I’m presuming it isn’t him... but who then? *shakes TV and demands answers*
Oh Yes, me too. The scene with the hands pointed towards a child I think. Maybe in some easily explainable way in the who verse, Jack and John had a child that got lost somehow. There is this line, when John leaves Gwen in the container and says "He and I, we shared something." He could be talking about a feeling here, but I doubt it. Then there is his constant bickering about how Jack is unreliable. Jack must have let him down on something.
Or maybe, Grey was someone, they were both searching for, when they first met.

Oh, that would make thing VERY interesting. And they were together for 5 years... I really need some answers! (It is SO nice to have something to look forward to in the TV schedules!)
