Feeling bleh. Diagnosis?

Feb 08, 2009 09:47

So, I woke up (after about 6 hours of sleep) with my head swimming as I tried to look around the room. The lovely radiators had been on all night regardless of the recent "warm" weather (45 degrees outside!), so it was over 80 degrees inside, and I'd been sleeping in a sweatshirt and fleece pants. My forehead was vaguely clammy and my temperature ( Read more... )

Thanks! I think my status has been upgraded from "in the Westinghouse" to "donning a pancake".

If you're not too dizzy, take a luke-warm to cool shower and a) regulate your body temperature and b) make sure you're responding to temperature change appropriately.

c) Tea?

That's pretty much my go to prescription. >.>

In my experience, one can definitely completely dehydrate overnight. I actually do this somewhat frequently (who knows why), and it completely screws with my body temperature regulation. Drink a lot more water (and maybe eat something a little salty to help absorb it), and you'll probably feel better once it soaks in.

I'm totally going to drink a bunch of water before bed from now on... It's ironic that external temperature regulation (i.e., radiators with a mind of their own) would dehydrate me, thus screwing up my internal temperature regulation. Or whatever exactly happened.

Thanks!

Have you had a blood test to see if you're anemic? I know that that can really mess with your body, and in addition to being dehydrated might cause what you're experiencing.

Ooh, thanks for raising that question! My doctor gave me a blood test a few months ago, and she pointed out calcium levels that were too high (??), but nothing about anemia (which I assume is a similarly routine check).

Hmmm... interesting about the calcium bit. I assume she would have checked iron levels, too, (it's a standard part of a CBC I'm pretty sure), but who knows. Either way, it probably would be a good idea to go back. That situation sounds scary!

Yeah, though I'm feeling better. Thanks!

Also, I hope you post about the stuff happening at Comic Con. I'm curious since it's in my neighborhood and I've run into so many interestingly garbed people! If you happen to be going today, you'd be welcome to stop by for some tea before or after. :)

I definitely have problems with dehydrating completely overnight and having headaches for the rest of the next day - I think when I'm more tired, I sleep breathing through my mouth, and lose a lot of moisture that way. I try to rehydrate and to take a shower, and that often helps.

I can also feel really bad after overheating at night, though that happens less often - that combined with less, interrupted sleep is enough to make me feel pretty screwy.

Feel better!

Thanks! It's good to know that I have not invented some new disease, and that a simple problem can cause all this.

I hope it doesn't happen to you too often!
