Cinema Cinema 2012.11.14, Shintaro's interview

Fight and Found
things seen when fighting

The record of high ratings during late night, with the setting of yankees facing high class girls, alias Bakaleya High School. The drama that has become a topic, Shiritsu Bakaleya Koukou, co-starring Johnny's Juniors and AKB48, makes a scale-up with a movie version. Morimoto Shintaro playing the leading part, as well as Takaki Yuya, Tamamori Yuta and Uchi Hiroki, these four will talk about a topic "the battle of my own"... In addition, the close-up to their appearances as actors from director Kubota Takashi's point of view!

I came to like acting more and more during this production

I heard the talk about the screen version right after we had finished filming the drama. Because of that, the sadness of the drama ending and the happiness of the beginning of a new Bakaleya mixed up and even I myself was like "Eh, which one is it?" and didn't really know (laughs).

But now that we were doing it, we wanted to make it even better than the drama, so for that sake we were thinking what we should do by ourselves and did speaking practises together. The screen is big so even rough parts can be seen, so that's why I challenged the shooting with a sence "I will become Sakuragi Tatsuya completely, from the top of my head to the tips of my toes!"

Tatsuya can't really convey his feelings towards Fumie but I was able to find sympathy in that. Even though I have a hesitant side in me, but when it's time to go, one goes on head first, that kind of side is maybe similar with me and Tatsuya. However, if it was me, I think I would finally say "I like you". Ah, but in case of liking the same person as my friend, I would draw back. Because I'm the type to choose friendship over love (laughs). In the movie, whether Tatsuya chooses love or friendship... if you could watch it with anticipation I'd be happy.

Thinking "I'll become the top!" is important no matter what you do. But there hasn't been a time, not even once, when I myself would have thought that "I am the best!" How should I put it, I'm a bit negative, and I have a side with minus thoughts, so I can't say things like "I'm the strongest!" all positively like Tatsuya. The side of me that gets worked up for one thing is the same with Tatsuya but I surely couldn't say such strong words (laughs). If there was one strongest part that I wouldn't lose to anyone... That would be the number of my likes and dislikes. I have many vegetables that I don't like, like tomatoes and eggplants, I seriously battle (with them) all the time. But I can't win (laughs)! I do think that it's not good though. Then, among the Bakaleya members, I maybe wouldn't lose in terms of muscles. I thought that if I could do acrobatics, it could eventually become my weapon, so I joined the gymnastics club in school. While doing stuff on horizontal bar and back flips, my muscles got trained almost on their own, and places like my chest became kind of great.

Even though I fight with my family a lot, I haven't fought with other juniors. I'm the youngest one among the cast. There was some pressure, Tatsuya was the gang leader and I acted thinking that I'm the same generation with the others. But times when the camera wasn't rolling I was being more reserved. When everyone were talking with each other, I was only behind laughing alone and the like, in the best position not to get any injuries (laughs). That's why there weren't any complaints like "in spite of you being younger!".

Via this production, I came to like acting more and more. Though I'm still completely inexperienced. Isn't drama a work which you build up with many comrades who band together and work as one for a common goal? Firstly, I like that, and when there are things you learn from your lines, like there definitely are words that make you go "oh, I see". I think it's also hard, but from now on I want to challenge playing all kinds of characters and if I could absorb the things I'm learning, someday I may be able to give a good performance. I'm also looking forward to that a bit myself.

When I saw the complete work, I think the feelings that we had towards the movie came through and I once again thought that "I really like Bakaleya". We will always be the comrades of Bakalyea High School, and as it is, I want to steadily deepen the bond of the six of us and do our best in concerts and different places. I want to convey to our senpai, Takaki-kun, that "Please come to our concert!" (laughs).

A movie that makes you cry?
Koizora. When I think about the feelings of the main character played by Aragaki Yui, I become super miserable.

1. For you, who are the best comrades and rivals?
- As I thought, aren't they Bakaleya's 5 guys.

2. Do you think friendship between men and women exist?
- I do. Either a man or a woman, a friend is a friend. Gender doesn't matter.

3. What are the requirements for a close friend?
- That you can talk with only meeting eyes, that you can mutually read each other's hearts. For example, something like Tetsuya and Tatsuya's relationship.

4. Do you have any yearning relating to yankees?
- I don't really. Actually, I hear a lot of nice things (about myself) so I think that kind of surface is good.

5. Your "baka" side?
- My mischievous side. At times, I say things I think as I please and get into fights because of that.

Director's eye - Kubota Takashi

He's really bright. Even though he was 14 years old at time of the shooting, there wasn't any timidity and he clearly said his opinions. He's mature to the point that makes you wonder if he's deceiving his age. He's an ominous man, I think (laughs). Relating to his character, he was also thinking about lot of things. Tatsuya is also included in the the love elements of the story, and for example in the scene where he's staring at Fumie, (he would ask) "does he like her a lot already, or is still only interested a little bit?" and the like, he valued those kinds of trembling feelings of Tatsuya and the process. Even while being troubled, he understood the mentality of Tatsuya who's bewildered by his first love, and properly expressed that.
