Why the fuck do people do a cut to a fucking cut? I mean seriously just make the freaking thing go where it's supposed to and stop making me click through three cuts to get to your stupid fucking story or art or whatthefuckever!

Er, yeah. So...

My name is elibad and I enjoyed 'Children of Earth'.

Cut to spare my flist my Psychoses. Also spoilers for CoE, potential wankery, and conceivably high amounts of self-delusion along with typically incomprehensible nattering. Come on in! )

Wow, that is a lot. I'm only going to hit the high points (or low points, depending on how you want to look at it :p ).

1) Hey, if you liked it, there's no need to apologize for it. You seem to be in a much larger group than those of us in fandom who didn't like it. (And the fact that you're not berating me for not liking it makes me support your right to like it that much more.)

2) One does not need to feel that RTD is a homophobe to feel that CoE was giving the audience a homophobic or heteronormative message. I personally know very little about the man, beyond that fact that he is, in fact, a homosexual and has, in fact, produced lots of television that has included gay characters. I have only watched his DW and TW stuff and I'm only basing my opinions on what appears on screen. The homophobic tropes are there. RTD may have been focusing on completely different cliches while all this was in production, but for the really fannish Ianto-lovers, it's the Queer Studies Cliches that are shining through ( ... )

I know, I even cut a pile of stuff out, I was rambling and detouring and honestly I could still probably do another this size but, like you said, just keep it the high/low points. :P

1) I have to admit to being quite conflicted over liking CoE, I mean they killed Ianto. It's like I go along thinking 'that wasn't so bad' and then have a 'WTF, HOLY JEBUS DUDE! THEY KILLED IANTO' moment and lose it a little bit. I think that's why it took me so long to get this out, why I still feel kinda weird about it. I don't want to seem okay or zen about it, because I'm really not okay that Ianto is dead. (I'm certainly not going to give anyone a hard time for not liking something, been in that position a few times myself, including feeling some hostility (in some places) over this, from both sides (there seems to be a mindset that you can't both have 'enjoyed' it and be upset that Ianto died ( ... )

Hey, if you have a whole 'nother pile to unload - do it! Because I'd love to read it! and It's probably the best way to get past it.

1) If they'd split most of the 'Frobisher and Big Government' stuff away as its own miniseries (except for the obvious torture-porn bits), I might have enjoyed it (as new and dramatic science fiction), so I can see why lots of folks enjoy big chunks of CoE. [It's just the way they blended TW into the mix that makes me despise it overall. (Did they have to have TW destroy themselves through abject stupidity and, on the Jack and Ianto side of things, some stilted interactions?)] You're having a easier time separating the bits, I'm guessing. I just can't help looking at it as a whole. *shrugs*

2) Sorry. I think I jumped on you for no reason there. I've been starting to take every mention of the 'fans say RTD is a self-hating...' and the 'Nutter fans issuing death threats...' as somehow including me. I'm getting way too defensive. (I've deleted a couple of comments, in other journals/communities ( ... )

The more I think about it, the reason I have BOTH Jacks is because DW Jack (that I've had for a while) was too small a scale to match up with TW Ianto. (Hence, the addition of TW Jack to the fold.)

I've not been tempted to get any others, TW or DW. But I randomly received a (smaller by far) Tenth Doctor with my DW Jack - from a completely different line of toys, from the look of him. *must take pics now...*
