Detectives :-)

It occurred to me today that I haven't noticed any of flist had posting about the BBC4 Series of Dirk Gently, which Daffodil Ranger, the MIB and I all liked, and perhaps it needed drawing to your attention. I could describe it as a mixture of HHGTTG, Sherlock and Misfits - a pretty highly seasoned recipe, but I think it works well enough ( Read more... )

I have to confess that I've ended up watching this entirely for the (ex-)vampire policeman. Otherwise, it's not quite my flavour of whimsy.

I can see your point of view - he was one of the best characters and a necessary contrast to all the pratting about.

You never know, he might turn out to be a vampire policeman in this too. It was originally a Douglas Adams creation after all; and he used to write Doctor Who episodes (which is how the very first Dirk Gently story started out before being rewritten).

I'll have to wait for the next series (or the right fanfic) - but I wouldn't be at all surprised!

Ooh yes, I've been meaning to iPlayer this - it clashes with three other things chez Halo so I'm still catching up with the other stuff! (WHY do all the good programs go out simultaneously? There are so many hours in the week!)

We did see THHGTTG movie which was on at the weekend - changed a bit and random romance stapled on, but we still like Marvin and the mice and the fjords *g*

Hurray for iplayer/Virgin replay - that's what I say - but you only have until Monday 26th...

I missed the Sport Relief special of Only Connect, because I wasn't cyber-stalking Victoria Coren carefully enough, but I'm saved ;-)

The THHGTTG was not the same as the radio series - but it was reasonably fun nonetheless - Martin Freeman is very versatile :-)

I confess I didn't bother with the latest ones, I love the books and didn't go much on the pilot, it felt like they'd stripped it of any actual humour. Plus I really don't like Stephen Mangan as Dirk...

It's a matter of taste - remakes of things one really likes are always going to have a lot to prove - I refused to go and see the Narnia movies on principle, because I didn't think they could match my view of the original books.

Also, my fondness for fictional lying toerags is probably helped by the fact that I manage to avoid them assiduously in RL.
