It occurred to me today that I haven't noticed any of flist had posting about the BBC4 Series of Dirk Gently, which Daffodil Ranger, the MIB and I all liked, and perhaps it needed drawing to your attention. I could describe it as a mixture of HHGTTG, Sherlock and Misfits - a pretty highly seasoned recipe, but I think it works well enough.
For those of you who can get BBC iplayer, three episodes of Series 1 are avilable here for another week
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01d24dk/Dirk_Gently_Series_1_Episode_1/ although not the 2010 pilot episode, but they've conveniently included that in the DVD :-)
I didn't like the original Douglas Adams books as much as the Hitchhiker's Guide - it was a bit too whimsical and slow for me - the TV series is whimsical and fast, with excellent casting and bouncy dramatic music. I am amused to see Jason Watkins in the Lestrade equivalent role - IMDb tells me he has been in lots of things, but I still see him as the vampire policeman from Being Human, which adds another layer of interconnectedness!
