I'M ON TOP OF THE WORLD!!!

Okay, not quite, but I cycled up from the sea to the top of Devil's Dyke today, in the drizzle and mist and frickin' monster wind.

And when I got up there this is what I saw:

Tim Horton's does drip coffee.

Those other drinks are espresso-based.

I was... underwhelmed myself. *shrugs* But then again, I like a French press but single origin. Still sorting out the "what" of what I like wrt that.

I guess that's what I mean, really...coffee isn't really coffee unless it's espresso based, to me. The other stewed up jug stuff I can get for free at work...I dunno. I guess I just figure a coffee shop should be built on coffee and provide other things as extras. Feels like TH is a snack shop which happens to do coffee...or summat.

I think that TH springs from the same loins as the rest of the North American midwest -- where Folger's is king.

I'm not saying that TH's coffee is like Folgers, but... part of the re-education that has been done/is going on in the middle of the continent is that weak coffee (Folgers) isn't the only coffee in the world. There are so many different variables that affect a coffee bean, and the outcome is dramatically different depending on how you prepare it.

There is good "drip" coffee out there... but again, single origin or blends that are custom-made, and just putting it through a Mister Coffee isn't going to hack it.

See What a Clover can do.

yeah, I mean, our coffee at work is a drip coffee machine, and y'know, it's okay. But growing up with espresso based coffee, most of that is a world away from most drip coffee I've ever had. It's just...nicer, better, more variety etc. I wouldn't willingly pay for any drip coffee I've ever had. Plus the whole TH thing of fresh coffee!! We brew a new jug every 20 mins! @0 FREAKIN' MINS? That's not brewed, it's stewed. Fresh means I want to see you grind the beans, not trust that you don't leave it on the hotplate 'til it's empty.

I think part of it is growing up in a part Italian family, living in the bar whenever I was over in Italy...I grew up with the sound of milk steamers and the sound of espresso dripping freshly out of the machine...

WOW, great view! I'm really jealous of your weather now: it's so hot and sticky here that we have to keep the air conditioning on all day! :(

Good espresso is a little piece of heaven on earth, isn't it? Oh, and I also love coffee made with the 'moka' percolator (is that even the correct English word? I have no clue, sorry). Every family in Italy has one and when a guest arrives, he/she is immediately offered a steaming cup of strong coffee! Best welcome custom ever, IMO. :)

Oh, believe me, it's still pretty hot here, I did the cycle in shorts and a vest top, sweating streams. It's still very humid, and still getting over 20 most days, even with the rain etc. And we don't have aircon. But it's getting a bit better, last week we were knocking on 30.

And yes, good coffee is just bloody great! I have a Moka thingy too - don't know if it's a percolator or what we'd call it...but I know I have one!!

xx

my going to a Tim Hortons is like you going to your favourite pub. I really like their coffee, do not like the espresso etc. things and don't think of them as being coffee, and go to Timmy's mostly for people watching. I mean, it's like getting a little slice of Canada every time I'm inside because there's everyone from all walks of life, all ages, various cultures and it's a nice, relaxed, friendly atmosphere. And since I avoid pubs whenever possible, this is my alternative to what others get out of pub going.
