hmmm... seems to me that even if the "seat belt fasten" sign is off, it is a good idea to keep it buckled. air currents do not necessarily announce when they will become turbulent.

Most airlines tell you keep it fastened even if the sign is off, at least all the ones I've flown on.

I'm pretty sure they all tell you to keep them on while seated. Clear-air turbulence is dramatic and dangerous.

i keep mine fastened even when the light is off.

I always assumed that the many clicks were people who actually wanted to stand up and get something from the overhead bins or go to the bathroom. I didn't realize how many people just unbuckled.
I always keep my seatbelt on, usually because I'm too asleep to be bothered to notice whether the light is on or not.
