New Guide Promise

Well after the consoltation earlier in the year about the Girl Guide promise, we now have new wording.

I promise that I will do my best:
To be true to myself and develop my beliefs,
To serve the Queen and my community,
To help other people
and
To keep the (Brownie) Guide Law.I'm quite happy to promise this. I need to think a bit about how to

That's good work by somebody. I like that second line. I like the "be true to myself" bit most, as it allows for individual freedom of expression. It doesn't flow as well as the old one, though! That had quite a good rhythm, which made it good for chanting. This one is lacking in that respect.

I haven't been to the Fail website, but I think I could probably quote the comments anyway...

For myself, my belief is what is right and wrong. Before you can forward in life, a person needs to know what they believe in.

To be true to myself?

Never break a promise I have made. Make my word mean something.

Never do anything that I know to be wrong. Resist pressure from others to do things that I know to be wrong.

Respect myself and my body. That includes not drinking too much, not using drugs, etc. Not to have sex unless I know for certain after careful consideration that I want to and not just because someone else wants me to.
