Boiled peanuts

When I was Georgia in August, I stopped at a little roadside stand and got the best boiled peanuts I've ever had.  The seller told me that he used garlic and black pepper when he made them.  So yummy.  Melt in your mouth saltiness with a hint of garlicky tang and the bite of black pepper.  Amazing ( Read more... )

Yeah. I haven't been to a Shindig since... August, I think? Weird scheduling issues, unfortunately. :/

Did you cook them inside or outside? They have to cook about all day and the fire has to be napalm hot the whole time. You might try a pressure cooker, but that's a death-defying stunt, if you're not careful.

Yeah. I haven't tried it in awhile, but I recently found a place to get genuine GREEN peanuts. Not just raw, but so fresh they're... well, very fresh. So I'm going to try it again. And if all else fails, it's back to Atlanta again for the first week of September. It'll just be an annual treat. :)

It's a certain amount of heresy, but you can get canned boiled peanuts at the grocery store. I'm not proud of myself, but I keep a can of them in the cabinet just in case I have a boiled peanut emergency.

How well do you know Atlanta? There are a couple of good places to get them, and a couple of great ones.

I, m'self, am heading to the mountains this weekend to see if I can't find some beside the road somewhere.

Hmmm... well, it was a roadside stand, right outside Atlanta. I was on my way in from Ohio for Dragon*Con. It was a little town that... dang it. It started with an A, and it was off of I 75S.

Now I feel like an idiot. I'll recognize it when I drive by again! We stopped by going both ways. :)
