Batou looked up from his book and cocked his head. He could hear breathing on the other side of the door and that confused him, because it wasn't how the Major breathed. Who else would want to see him? Batou set The Critique of Pure Reason down on the desk and unlocked his knees from where he'd been standing. Unlike a biological human, Batou didn't tire or get sore from remaining in one position, so the posture in which he'd become interested in his book was the position that he remained in for hours.
A cursory check of his internal chronometer revealed that four hours had passed as he'd stood in the centre of the room, before the open window, reading.
Batou opened the door and looked down.
"Deuce. You brought flowers."

Deuce flashed a slight smile, rolling his fingers at warm yellow ruffles. "A dozen undying roses for your scientific pleasure, miro bau."

Batou stepped back into the room, inviting Deuce inwards with a sweep of his thick arm. He gently held the roses in his other hand, then sniffed. His olfactory sensors reported that the roses were chemically identical to all other data on roses available. Fascinating.
"You play the violin?" asked Batou, moving to place the buoquet on his unused dresser.

Deuce looked down at the violin held in front of him, then back up, watching Batou inspect the roses. Was there something he should be doing? Unsure, he stepped further into the room, feeling a bit of an idiot.
"Do-- ah, have you a favorite composer?" he asked, falling back on something he knew.
