Niamh was crouched in the corner halfway across the deck, holding her breath and listening to the footsteps of Rabbit-Head pirates. She could run fast, but so could they, it seemed, and they had been on her trail since the morning. She curled, trying to make her self as small as possible. Her communicator had been dropped a long time ago.
Hajime had told her to jump overboard if she were about to be caught. Kill herself...like Lucy had. She didn't know what to think about that. She was young, and people died, yes, but not like that - it shouldn't be like that...she didn't want it to be like that....
A voice calling her name reached her ears, but she didn't dare respond as the footsteps of the pirates stopped abruptly.
The footsteps began again, heading towards her newfound friend. She felt the need to scream, to warn her, but nothing came out - only a harsh gasp of nothing.
She could hear the fight but not see it - still curled up in the corner, limbs strangely frozen - and her name being called again.
"Suhhhhhh," she gasped, trying to get her voice to work. "Celeste! I'm over here!"
That worked. Next was her arms and legs. she stumbled up and fell flat on her face immediately. "Celeste!"
Celeste was covered in blood from head to toe. It darkened her normally dark clothes and made the dry spots look light and clean. Pressing her hand to her stomach as it gushed half-coagulated jelly-like blood, she shuffled over to the trembling figure of the girl, panting from the pain.
It was intense, even with this dead body. Although every cell in her husk was dead, including her entire nervous system, her mind was trapped and still subject to its own internal processing of what happened to her. She was aware that all physical sensations were just a product of her psyche, and that she didn't have to acknowledge them - she hadn't been as she fought her way here - but her willpower could only do so much, and this wasn't some minor scratch.
Standing over the girl, she starts to unravel her scarf from around her neck.
"...are you alright, kiddo? I'd help you up, but... ugh, bending down's kinda hard for me right now."
