To the last breath

The City is already a bad soap opera, so a curse based on soap operas should not have been nearly as noticeable except for the decrease in the quality of the drama and increase in noise. That was just annoying.

Shopping list:
-Canned soup
-Books
-A teddy bear for Waverly since she kept muttering about one and I forgot to pick one up sooner
-M1911 Pistol

She's going to get better soon. Artemis and the Doctor (I don't know if you know him; he's a friend of Rose's) have been checking on her daily, and there's always one of us there with her. She wouldn't want you to grieve.

I'm glad you weren't affected yesterday.

I’m afraid I don’t know either of those two…

That does seem likely. I have no intention of doing so, it wouldn’t accomplish anything and I really don’t think she’d want me to, either.

I don’t think I could have tolerated myself if I was. I really dislike soap operas.

[OOC: Sorry for all the emo/oddness lately… The emotional rollercoaster of City life is getting to Amanda, and she fails at coping in normal ways sometimes. ._.]

If you do not mind the question... Is obtaining a weapon a necessity, or only a matter of interest for you this time? If it is the former, I believe you should tell me.

It’s… paranoia or at least an overabundance of caution due to stress causing me to feel that even if it’s not a necessity now, it will be later. So, I’ll tell you just in case.

…there has been an increase in violent crime lately-as you might already know-, and I generally patrol alone when I’m assigned to streetwork as part of the police. Since I would be at a disadvantage attempting to stop anyone from commiting such crimes up close due to being weaker and slower than the recent suspects, it seemed like the best choice, since being reassigned is unlikely, would be to acquire a long range weapon to hopefully non-lethally disable the suspect before they reached me.

I see. Please take no offence, but I cannot imagine such a weapon will help to increase your situation much. Those beings that have committed most of the recent crimes are generally far superior to humans, with speed that likely enables them to evade even long-range weapons, or, in some cases, even hitting them would have no effect, either due to a strong defence power, or an ability that regenerates them. I have no doubt in your abilities, but I have doubt that they out-weight the natural advantages some of these criminals have. You should never have been assigned to this task. If you cannot change it now, while a weapon is a good idea to start, what I would rather recommend it searching the help of a partner who may profit from your mental abilities the same way you can profit from their strength.

Out of interest, who is responsible for assigning you to this task? Who is your commander?

No offense taken; you have a good point. In three days a new schedule will be starting which says that I will assigned more often than not to forensics which will be mostly deskwork; until then, I must remain where assigned. A partner… hm… I’ll take your advice next time there is an opening to make my schedule coincide with someone else’s so that the two of us can work together without having to shuffle around the department too much so I won’t be alone.

Commander Vimes is in charge of the police force as well as being one of the wardens. I believe I was assigned to this because I have the least experience of those in the department so it would make a degree of sense to give the task that requires the least specialization under the quieter circumstances which the schedule was made during.

[OOC: …stupid typo. “Irreparable invaid mark up” is so not something to call one’s boss. ._.]

Wow. I’m not sure how I’d react to news like that…

I’m usually assigned to patrol alone and the increase in violent crime is making me a little paranoid something might happen. Thank you for the offer, but I don’t believe it’s anything more than nerves right now.

What is a soap opera, Amanda-san?

[private to Amanda-san]

Mmm . . . would you like me to cook dinner for you, Amanda-san? So at least there's one item that is to be crossed out from that list.

…It’s a type of show in my world with storylines centering around relationship drama or situations that nothing prepared the characters for. In my opinion, it is an abuse of hyperbole, but there are people who like it.

[Private to Megumi]
That would be wonderful, thank you. With all the recent crimes, my shifts have gotten longer and I haven’t had time to do much cooking and still expect to have free time.

Ah. And that's the sort of storyline that the City chose to foist upon us? No wonder the City was in histrionics.

It is good that you dedicate so much effort to your work, Amanda-san. And this is the least that I can do to help. Do you have any allergies to food?

Seems that way.

It’s better that I do than don’t.

There’s only two things I’m allergic to, and neither would be put in food by any reasonable person: One is a mild allergy to penicillin, and the other is a slightly worse allergy to Dehydroacetic acid which is only used in some types of makeup- usually facepowder.
