It really is. I'm glad you read the post! If you really like this poem I would definitely recommend you look into some of his others. I'm sure a library would have it; I read it in a book of my mom's, which she bought at a book sale from her high school library... back in high school! So it's a... well-aged book! Hahaha! The really cool thing is that someone who used to own it has notes written in it. They're in cursive and for some reason I'm inclined to think a man wrote it. I guess it's just a mystery though!

Oh wow. That book of yours has such a cool history behind it. I think it's really fantastic how the subject of the poem (and the history of the physical book itself) can resonate with your life on so many levels. Now that's how true inspiration is born! It's definitely a set up for success, and if nothing else, you still gain immeasurable mental and emotional wealth from simply finding enjoyment the poem ( ... )

Yeah I have never read anything by T.S. Eliot but my assumption is that he was scornful of the rules of form for old poetry and wanted to go all... free verse!! Man! But Swinburne is a master.

It's true that it's amazing that Swinburne still has awesome poetry while still following all the rules! That can be even harder, although sometimes free verse can be harder because there's no guarantee it will even sound like a poem when you're done.

Thanks for reading! :)

Hey very cool, that's awesome that you had already heard of him! My mom introduced me to him last night.

We call him Poe! Sometimes Edgar, but I don't know if he responds to that. xD

Which idea was the one you scrapped-- the one that I had left some comments on? I see you have been posting a new one. It looks kind of scary!! Have some people been commenting on it? I hope so! If it's too scary I might have to pass but otherwise I look forward to reading it! :)

This poem is so awesome... I think it is the first poem in english that I have read complete.
I had this feeling when I was reading it: a mix of peace, anxiety and hopelessness.

Wow, that is cool-- what is your first language?

Yes, it brings up a lot of different emotions. Sometimes it can seem pretty bleak but there are some nice aspects, too.

It's beautiful... I find myself agreeing with a lot of what this poem says. I am always amazed by how inspiring my civilization can be and yet I can never be inspired by it. :D
