I've given up on the reboot. I'll always be a DC fangirl, but the tone and changes in the DCnU just aren't for me. And I *LOVE* angst, but their approach is so off-putting. Don't even get me started on Tim Drake's origins...
Wally is one of my faves. I'm holding out hope that he'll be better captured in the new Flash series (where he's also likely to be a POC, I believe). The team doing that show is the same doing Arrow, and while they've monkeyed around with canon, they've held pretty true to characterizations (except for Laurel/Dinah, but then they had Sara as kickass Black Canary and that made up for it). I'm holding out hope that I can get my Wally fill there...and clinging to the preboot universe!
The Flash is one of my favorite Nu52 books, especially since I can't stomach a lot of them, but I haven't gotten to Wally yet (heck, I haven't gotten to them changing Iris' race yet...is it just going to abruptly happen?). I'm cautiously optimistic about Wally, but they've just screwed with some of the older Titans characters so much to the point where I'm upset they DIDN'T screw with Dick because his relationship with Wally and the others is what helped him become the man he is (err, was in Post-Zero Hour continuity).
You're so very right about Wally's origin and dream story. He was the DEFINITIVE sidekick to take up the mantle from his mentor. And an A-List mentor at that. What I love about DC is that it's about legacy, and the Flash Family had the best legacy ever. Bringing back Barry and the Nu52 wrecked that.
