Fantastic descriptions, but I disagree with you on the last one. I kinda like it, it's a happier end to such a sad story, and I like what I've heard. Oh well, I guess we'll have to wait 'till it comes out. :D
I suppose I shouldn't judge it until I've heard the whole thing. It's a good song, but I guess I don't think the style fits with the era that LOTR is set in. Of course it's good that they are trying to keep the ending light, but even though there are hopeful parts in the end, I've always viewed the story more on a sad/beautiful note. Then again, it all depends on which character you're looking at and what point of view one has.
I won't be able to actually judge it until I walk out of that theatre at 3:30am on that cold December morning. :D
I'm not exactly happy with that last song, either, but I'll have to hear the whole song, and not just a little clip, before I can make up my mind. Absolutely loved what I heard of the Grey Havens track, though. =)
Yes, I'm hoping that the whole song will have more defining melody to it. Or in other words, I hope the tune changes in some point of time (i.e. maybe what we heard was the chorus). If I heard this song without knowing that it was in the soundtrack I would *never* have guess it was, and I think that's the problem.
But like you said, I need to hear the whole song. When does the soundtrack come out, anyway?
Yes, I pretty much agree with the other speakers here... The major parts of the soundtrack sounded fantastic, but the last song made me a bit disappointed--no "autumny" feelings there... and I'd *so* have loved something slower with more vibrato and feeling to it, also more "mysterious"... but as the others have already mentioned, we still don't know the whole song.
And it's supposed to be released on Nov 25, if I remember correctly...
NO, NO, NO---NOT "In Dreams," for the Grey Havens, because I'll be a total mess! I can barely hear that song at the end of FOTR without tearing up . . . I WILL BE A BAWLING MASS OF HUMANITY NOT FIT FOR HUMAN SIGHT.
Woe is me. I'm so glad Baranduin is saving me a room at the rest home.
If it's the words that get you, don't worry, it's just the melody through instruments. But for me it's mostly the music. Gah. It's sooooo beautiful. Have you heard the clips?
I'm going to reserve my judgment on that last clip until I hear the whole thing through at least once or twice. ;) This is what I've been able to come up with for the words:
what can you see on the horizon? why do the wides'(?) gulls call?
across the sea a pale boat (?) rises the ships have come to carry you home
