Re-Writing Sucks

Recently discovered/decided that the second half of my novel requires a pretty massive re-write, due to rushing and the author taking cop-outs because she is a lazy kamikaze writer who doesn't plan things out to begin with (oh, how convenient that there is a crazy cult group with the infrastructure already established to save the protagonists. I'm pretty sure I have the same problem. But most of the time I can't bring myself to rewrite anything because I like the scene, or the dialogue, or the way the two characters are flirting with each other, or something, and I don't want to get rid of it. :(

And now you've given me the masochistic urge to read over 150+ pages for the third time just to see what needs to be rewritten...

It is extraordinarily difficult, more than I think it should be. But have faith! I don't think you lose the scene so much as shuffle it to another section/story/part of your brain.

Sweeeeeet. I like days when I give people masochistic urges. It's like a little bit of Christmas!

Just remember to save the scene you cut somewhere. In case.

(If I were on my own computer instead of the laptop, I could probably still dig up the very first draft of Serpent Prince. Unless it was on one of the 3 1/2" floppies... but then I learned early to back up floppies lots.)
