I have returned with another trailer! Yay! *throws random objects around*
Anyway, I’m surprised I even went ahead with this. It wasn’t like I loved the movie, as good as it was, but I found it a bit too amusing to pass up.
So with that out of the way…it may reassure (or dismay) you that this trailer will not feature any men wearing tights.
POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD FOR “SKYFALL”!!!!
Cast
James Bond/007 - Fakir
M - Edel
Gareth Mallory - Drosselmeyer
Eve Moneypenny - Tutu
Q - Autor
Raoul Silva - Mytho
Sévérine - Kraehe
Commentary
* Casting:
Starting with the characters, like with my “Great Gatsby” trailer, it was a no-brainer. Fakir, unfortunately, is the one who is incredibly miscast again but we really don’t have a lot options when it comes to potential male leads for Princess Tutu which is why they should totally make a third season or some kind of spinoff.
I don’t have much else to say since he’s the only one in the series who covers almost all the action and bruises. So what else was I supposed to have done? Being Fakir is only a thousand shaken martinis and a gun away from being Bond in the angst department. :P
And…ok, ok. I’ll be completely honest. If it wasn’t for the fact that Ben Whishaw made such a hottie nerd as Q, then I wouldn’t have had the urge to use Autor to fill that role and this whole parody would not have happened. Yes, my reasons are that shallow.
So really, everybody got matched up with their parts just because it was obvious. Cue eyeroll.
* Portrayal:
I was originally iffy at the beginning stages of making this, despite my small obsession to parody Autor in everything I see, hah hah hah. *exaggerating*
For one thing, Fakir doesn’t have the poker face that 007 is known for. Fakir’s is either far too expressive underneath his outer layer of disapproval, hardly presenting any subtlety, or so serious that you can’t help but laugh at how frown-y he always is. Sorry, Fakir. You’re cool in some aspects but not in the same league as Bond’s cool. Maybe if you lay off the emo-kid a bit and it could work.
Edel came out rather dull but that’s only because Judi Dench is so great so it’s not really her fault that there is a giant canyon between the counterparts (she’s a puppet for cryin’ out loud!).
Tutu lacks action altogether but I managed to fit in some clips from episode 8 and hopefully it looks convincing enough. I suppose you could say her naïve personality resonates well with Naomi Harris’s Eve but that’s where any similarities end. Tutu’s a lover, not a fighter.
Drosselmeyer is so…genki that I think if he was actually Mallory, it would be a greater concern on how he was able to become an authoritative figure in MI6 rather than Silva breaching security. You just don’t give that amount of power to this crazy old man, lol.
Autor…well, he’s just a smirky bastard in this one and enjoying his job a little too much for anyone’s comfort but like I said, he’s the sole reason for this parody so he can smirk about his gadgets and watch them go “BOOM!” all he wants. I also like that we see some minimal up-to-no-good-bastardy camaderie between him and Fakir.
For Mytho…well, Javier Bardem’s voice doesn’t suit him nor does his ebilness come close in depth with the twisted, but somewhat heartrending, villain that is Silva…and let’s just leave it at that.
Finally, Kraehe has the exposing dress so she gets to be the Bond girl (minus the shower sex). :P Though I was pleased with this outcome more than the actual Sévérine. As gorgeous as she is, Sévérine is such a poor supporting character. I couldn’t help but feel disappointed that she wasn’t more than eyecandy with a meager backstory and a tool for the men who held her fate in their hands. I mean, you can’t expect much from Bond girls. Most of them just die either because of Bond or for Bond or whatever…but she’s really just not memorable at all.
Anyways, I digress. Kraehe seemed to fill in what I thought Sévérine lacked as a character. The fear of her big bad boss is still there but if you notice at the near end where she’s about stab Mytho, it’s almost as if her own story gets expanded. I’m not sure why but somehow, a subplot or something similar that I never intend to include in the parody always manage to slip itself in it somewhere. I mean, I’m okay with it. At least Kraehe doesn’t have to wait around for someone to kill her oppressor before he kills her. That’s probably why I didn’t like Sévérine…plus, she never used her beretta! Bah!
* Editing/Technical stuff…
If you noticed, I used the international trailer for Skyfall instead of the US version. I’m pretty sure I saw that one first before the US version came out but regardless, the international trailer just flowed better for me so I stuck with that.
Um…there were a couple of things I had difficulty with that caused me to eventually drop my attention on this parody for a while. The beginning of the trailer seemed to have been clipped off and I didn’t realize until I was almost half way done so I couldn’t change it without messing all my lip syncs. Which is why the video starts off too soon and that’s still bugging me, hrmmm…
Lip-sync, of course, is always tough to do but I had more trouble with finding the appropriate clips and transitions than anything else. Firstly, this is quite fast-paced so there’s the issue of keeping up with the tempo of the trailer. Secondly, c’mon, doing a James Bond parody using Princess Tutu? That’s like the weirdest combo since… I dunno.
So yea…I think I spent more time looking for the right clips than any editing and I’m hardly satisfied with the final result so when I do a re-make of it in higher resolution, maybe I’ll have a better idea of what to replace some parts with.
The transitions gave me a bit of hell but it wasn’t something I couldn’t fix.
…ah, yea. Disguising the gunshots and the explosions. Lol. I really don’t know what I can say about that but I tried my best with the sword swings and so on. When it came to vehicles like the motorcycle or the train, I just used the ravens and made it look like they’re roaring instead.
But none of them really tops what I did for the helicopter at the end. I’ve replaced the original cut for a more mundane one of Raven!Mytho flying in but it used to show Fakir charging at the camera so every time I hear the chopper wings, I imagined Fakir turning into a heli. Haha.
Right, not my best, I admit, but that’s all the time I’m giving it for now.
* Overall:
Pfft, after reading this over, I think I sound a little too serious about working on parody trailers…which I am because it’s as much of a fun project as it is entertainment. For me, anyway. At the very least I don’t want to give out a crappily made video so some effort is required, y’know? :P
But in all honesty, I think I wanted this parody to be funnier since it’s just weird to put PT in a James Bond setting. Is it funny? I dunno. I found it funny and I enjoyed working on it. I’ll eventually redo it in better resolution and the same goes for my Gatsby parody.
And I suppose that’s all for now. I’ll be starting the next parody soon, one that should be more compatible with PT than Skyfall. I just hope nobody else gets to it first because that would totally kill all my mojo. :<
