This was made under a week with a 5-day break in between weekends. I demand my triple scoop sundae NOW.

*cough* So yea…I’d say this one was a really fun one to do but handling it was like babysitting a toddler that wouldn’t do what I told it to.

As for the movie, I thought it was “eh” but I already knew ahead of time that I had to do a parody of this because it’s just too perfect not to.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD FOR “OZ” AHEAD!!!!

Cast
Oscar Diggs/Oz - Fakir
Theodora - Rue
Evanora - Kraehe
Glinda - Tutu
China girl - Ahiru
Finley - Uzura

Commentary

* Casting/Portrayal:

Oz has really sealed the deal for me on NOT giving Fakir ANY of the lead roles for my planned parodies in the future. At least not until he stops appearing like a miscast. Ironically, I felt that he fit better as Oz than he did as James Bond and Gatsby in my Skyfall and TGG trailers respectively…and it’s not because he has green hair. :P

If anything, I suppose it’s how Fakir and Oz “ended” their stories in similar ways. Yes, personality-wise, they couldn’t be more different and I doubt anyone can really picture Fakir as a lying womanizer (because he’s really just a SHYSHYBOI~, lol). But they both start of as jerks in their own ways only to discover something about themselves throughout the plot. Oz for his inner goodness and Fakir for being able to overcome his fear and accept his gift of writing.

It’s too bad Fakir doesn’t have a lot of light-hearted scenes, though. Otherwise, this trailer could have been more fun and humorous…and if you think about it (or rewatch the entire series paying very close attention to the details), Fakir never laughed. At all.
…That is very strange for me. o_O;
Anyways, I don’t mind how he appeared in this parody. Rather than moody, I think he does a lot of serious contemplating, “hmmmm”-ing and hesitating which is good because that’s exactly what I think Oz would have done when he suddenly shoved onto the throne and tasked with killing the wicked witch. It’s a shame that I couldn’t see much of the same with James Franco, though. I mean, I like the guy and I think he’s a good actor but he just didn’t fit this part.

Moving along!

Theodora and Evanora…the idea of using Rue and Kraehe as separate characters was what I wanted to do from the very start. Then when I actually got around to adding clips to the video, I debated whether I should I recast Evanora since Rue and Kraehe are too alike to be viewed as two distinct people. My runner-up choice for Evanora was Paulamoni but in the end I stuck with Kraehe for one major reason: I needed to differentiate between the two sisters where Theodora represents innocence before corruption and Evanora, already wicked, represents evil.

I think Rue fits into Theodora’s shoes very well because though snobby, she was just an ordinary girl in the series before love and jealousy drove her to become a raven and wreck havoc everywhere.
The clips I chose for Kraehe are the times when you can see she is most different from what makes Rue Rue. In other words, the malicious behavior of the Monster Raven’s daughter that made her the primary antagonist.
I also kept Kraehe as Evanora because I wanted to reflect the rivalry between the magical girl egos of Tutu and Kraehe against the rivalry between Glinda and Evanora.

Which brings me to Tutu and Ahiru. Obviously no one else but Tutu could play Glinda and of course, she had to keep the magical aspect of her character so that left me free to use Ahiru as China Girl. I think that’s perfectly appropriate and since there is a more drastic profile gap between Ahiru and Tutu than there is one between Rue and Kraehe, it worked very well.
Not to mention, I have not had the chance to cast Ahiru in anything yet so this is a good a chance as any.

Finley the Monkey was originally supposed to be played by Mytho…but throughout the whole trailer, Finley only had one line and when I used Uzura in the “orphan” scene, I thought “Why not?”. I doubt I will have many chances to use Uzura in my future parodies and it was rather funny to see her say that line to be followed by Fakir’s…well, yea, his face says it all. Lol

And…oh yea! Duck!Ahiru made an appearance! As a water fairy! Awesome, yea?! *feels so clever/is really excitedly stupid* XD
And you can barely see Autor but I didn’t want him in here anyways so meh.

* Making of:

Well, let me ask you this. Where the HELL am I going to get a hot air balloon, a tornado, a city made of emerald, a big ass heap full of gold, explosions and fireworks in the PT series?

Hmm?

Yea, nowhere. So I tweaked things around. The storm worked out okay. Don’t ask me what Autor flung Fakir at the beginning in place of Oz’s hat. It’s a magical pen, I dunno. *shrug*
And uhhh…Fakir goes to church dressed up as Robin Hood, I guess…and apparently he’s homeless and praying to God can also be done by writing on his notepad through a friggin’ storm. Hey, whatever floats your boat.

*cough* Back to business…haha, no brooms here! Rue can fly! *slapped* XD;

Ok, ok.

The major points that should have been covered are the wicked witches and the prophecy. Strange, huh? Though this would be all about Oz? Hmm, nope.
Though I tried really hard to not showcase him using a sword. Because he’s a wizard so he should be using his “magical powers~”…or just his quill and paper, that works, too. Heh.

Anyways…

Truthfully, I have a reason for specifically casting Rue as Theodora as well because when she becomes the equivalent of Wicked Witch of the West, she doesn’t become Kraehe. She becomes the Monster Raven. Which is why you see the older storybook sketch when they mentioned the Wicked Witch in the trailer and why she’s depicted in transforming near the end. Kraehe already exists as Evanora…but the Monster Raven has yet to fully appear.

I hope that makes sense because I definitely did not just make that up as I went. :P

Although, Rue wasn’t featured in the trailer as much as I think I wanted to so the build-up of her becoming the Wicked Witch/Monster Raven seemed very unsupported. *sigh* Oh well.

And the swan figure representing the prophecy. Technically, Tutu isn’t the swan in this one even though she’s on the good side. The swan is supposed to reference the coming of the wizard or the wizard himself. Not entirely out of context when you take the backstory of Fakir’s character into consideration. Fakir’s sword is Lohengrin’s sword and Lohengrin’s story in Arthurian tales is another version of the medieval tale of the Knight of the Swan or the Swan Knight.

So put it all together…

Fakir gets Lohengrin’s sword and is a reincarnation of the knight in “The Prince and the Raven”. We can assume Lohengrin was possibly the knight’s name.

The bird motifs for the Princess Tutu series are swans, ravens and crows. Tutu represents the swan, Mytho uses a sword with swans designed on the hilt, Fakir is Mytho’s knight. Lohengrin was Mytho’s knight in the story. Lohengrin is the Swan Knight. Fakir is a reincarnation of Lohengrin. Therefore, Fakir is the Swan Knight reincarnated.

And therefore… *breathes*…Fakir is represented by the swan in the parody…which represents the wizard.

…Now that I admit I pulled out of nowhere in the last hour of editing.

I know you think I’m probably feeling all smug and clever.

Nope, I was just looking for better clips to use and just happen to crash into one of my old wiki searches. :3

Other than that, I don’t think there’s much more to add to this segment. I didn’t even include this part in my first two commentaries but since I had lots to say this time around and I didn’t know where to put them, I just created a new segment. Hmm.

* Editing:

Finding the clips for most of this was pretty easy. The lip syncing, however, drove me insane because all the clips with the exact expressions I wanted were either short or just didn’t match up to the voices in the original trailer. I can still see some glitches here and there in certain parts of the finished trailer but I’m so annoyed that I refuse to go back and fix them. If I did, it’d probably just mess it up more.

I need to find a more sufficient way to display the clips. I’m sure the video would look better and smoother without having to make a thousand little readjustments.

On another note, I decided not to include the giant texts that were in the original trailer because I thought that would disrupt what I already had.
The sepia changing into color wasn’t very well done but can you really tell? Because he was just falling through clouds anyway so the shift is not noticeable no matter how you want to look at it.

…oh, and I finally figured out how to eliminate the black bars on both sides of the video when it plays on the youtube page so now they show full screen. Thank god because I don’t really know how to rip these DVDs in higher resolution and from what I checked, these can't be ripped in HD anyway. Bummer.

Hah, less work for me. I guess there won’t be any need for me to go back and fix the trailers that are already done. *lazy ass* xD;;

* Overall:

I liked working on this one simply because it didn’t take me months to finish and I hope that’s going to be the case with my other parodies as well…which just means it won’t happen that way. Bah.

But really, I’m sure the “magic” part is what really made this a hundred times easier to do and what can I say besides the fact that I love magic? *shrug*

Right, already have my next one lined up and planned to get started on it right away. Fakir will be in it but he’s not the lead YIPPEE, I’M SO SICK OF HIM!! and things should be very interesting when I look at the final version. Anticipate it! :3
