I agree with the "too old for cons" bit, but my friend also said that it might just be that the crowd these days are a little dull in the head for the older generation fans to actually enjoy being in conventions :c
Animax + Gosiengfiaos were ignored, but people posed with them? I don't get it XD Not unless you mean that they're like accessories to an outfit, but could have been easily done without?
After Animax did their thing, which was pretty much ignored, Alodia and Ashley went down to a semi-closed-off space, and boys lined up to have a picture with them.
I mean, during Ozine fest and other cons a sizeable group of people hang around and watch the stage while others keep shopping or walking around. Animax's moment on stage, a small group of guys going googly-eyed at the Gosengfiaos and some kids, that was all. Everyone else didn't care about the girls.

hello. ^^v
My country has 2 major anime conventions (OzineFest and H3) and 2 semi-major ones (ToyCon and M3) in a year. There are also a lot of minor anime and/or cosplay conventions. Going to a convention here means hopping into a bus, car, or the train and heading to one of the big city malls, and going to the assembly hall at the top floor.
ToyCon is one of the semi-major ones, focusing on figures and the more expensive toys. The problem about nice merch and a lot of horrid ones is also true here, maybe truer since we're nearer the sources of such things.
I go to the major ones, but over the last few years they were more exhausting than fun. They've become places to shop and watch cosplayers walking around, but not much else.
I'm from the Philippines (below Japan and Taiwan, to the right of Singapore) and I'm ten years your senior. ^^;; I just rarely act my age. ^^;;
Your con selction is better then here with AnimeBoston being the only major and local one I know of. (of course my teen years were spent at Star Trek and comic book cons.) The rest are out of state. Didn't miss the bus/train, didn't miss the crowds, just missed the shopping this year.

I'm gonna sound crazy but...mlady_anonymousJune 20 2010, 17:18:03 UTC
I have a message to relay. (giggle) 80 wants to know how to get to you because 18 absolutely refuses to spend any more time living in a box. See link for explanation. http//www.animesekai.com/products/katekyoushi-hitman-reborn/charapos-collection-3-c-yamamoto-hibari-10-years-later/
Lucky you! I've never been to a con at all. XD *jealous* Despite the fake merchandises, it seemed like fun with all the cosplayers hanging around.
Any annual event and tradition changes in time, so I sympathize on why you might not feel comfortable with the cons anymore. People change too so it may also be because you have a different mindset than before. I'm sorry, I have no idea what I just typed.
